Elijah Jenkins '22 won Brophy's 2022 Poetry Out Loud contest with his recitation of "Frederick Douglass" by Robert Hayden, and went on to finish second at state. This year, Nate George '24 won the contest with his rendition of "We Are Not Responsible" by Harryette Mullen.

Immerse Yourself in Art!

Engaging with art is essential to the human experience and plays an important role in learning to problem solve, make decisions and to think critically and creatively. Most of all, participation in the arts can instill a great sense of fulfillment and accomplishment and help in developing confidence and self-awareness. With these important benefits in mind, students take a minimum of five semesters of art courses. Additionally, there is no shortage of arts-related co-curriculars.

Arts co-curricular activities this year include Photo/Video Club, Brophy Student Theater, National Arts Honor Society, Project Music, Brophy Comedy Club, Brophy Podcasting Club, Peer Editing Network, Write Life, Tech Building Club, Drama Club, Central Avenue Sound and more. Students can also get involved with one of the student publications. At Brophy, there are many ways to immerse yourself in art!

Fine Arts Extravaganza

The Fine Arts Extravaganza is the biggest arts event of the year and includes performing and studio art from all corners of the campus — music, spoken word, dance, photography, ceramics, painting, sculpture, graphic arts and more. The annual November event draws big crowds and helps kick off the holiday season at Brophy. In the spring, the Fine Arts Department hosts Brophy Art Week, with evening concerts and art galleries rotating over several nights.

Brophy Theater

Brophy's theater program works with the theater program at Xavier College Preparatory to bring several productions to Brophy and Xavier each year.

Students can also get involved in the Brophy Tech Theater Club which teaches set building, Drama Club which, among other things, initiates qualified students into the International Thespian Society each year, and Brophy Student Theater which produces a yearly play from an original student-written script. Theater venues include...
Black Box Theater
The Octagon Stage (set up for outdoor performances)
Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center (at Xavier)

Band and Choir

Brophy offers band and choral programs with a place for anyone who would like to participate. Students at Xavier College Preparatory also participate in the band program.

The band program includes Band Foundations, Chamber Winds, Orchestra and Jazz Band. Band concerts are scheduled in the fall and spring, with other performing opportunities such as the Fine Arts Extravaganza, Jazz Band at home athletic events and various ensembles at Open House and other school events.

The choral program includes Freshman Choir, Concert Choir, Honor Chorale and Central Avenue Sound. Choral concerts are scheduled for the fall and spring, with the Christmas concert in Brophy Chapel always a highly anticipated event. The Honor Choral sings at many special events during the school year.

Poets' Alley

Take a stroll through Poets' Alley where you'll often find a pop-up art gallery featuring art from the classrooms of the Scott and Laura Eller Fine Arts Center!

Create Your Way

In addition to the offerings in Brophy's Fine Arts Department, the Innovation Commons and Industrial Arts also offer unique ways to create. In the photo above, students designed birdhouses inspired by the Brophy Tower, San Francisco row houses and the architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Equipment available to students includes the Stratasys 3D printer, the Universal Laser Cutter, the Omax protoMAX water jet machine (which uses a high-pressure mix of water and garnet to make precise cuts in metal and ceramics), a Longbed lathe, planer, jointer, bandsaw and welder.
