Brophy Golf Opens Division I State Tournament

Brophy Golf Opens Division I State Tournament

The Brophy golf team will look to make history this week at the 2026 AIA Division I golf tournament as they seek a third consecutive state title. The Broncos posted a 12-stroke victory over Hamilton in 2025 and a 21-stroke victory over Perry in 2024.

Brophy repeated as state champions for the first time since the 1993-94 season with a 12-stroke victory over Hamilton in 2025, but the Broncos have never won three straight. Overall, they captured their 11th state title in school history last year, tying Thatcher and Arcadia for the state record.  They have won three of the last four titles.

Four golfers return with state championship experience. Senior Asher Nelson and junior Hank Miller tied for second at nine-under-par in 2025 (135), while Jack Langbein has placed in the top 10 at the state championships twice, finishing T7th in 2025 (70–70) and T10th in 2024(69-73). Evan Tyree has participated in two state championships (20th in 2025/70-76 and 29th in 2024/77-77). Luke Staples is playing in the state tournament for the first time.

Tyree will lead the team off the tee at 9:00 a.m. Langbein is in the second group at 9:10, followed by Nelson at 9:20. Miller is in the 9:30 group, and Staples is at 9:40 pm.
