Beach Volleyball Defeats Red Mountain in Division I Bracket
The Brophy beach volleyball team opened the 2026 AIA Beach Division I tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 11 Red Mountain at Xavier College Prep. The Broncos advance to play at No. 3 Highland on Wednesday at 4 p.m. (Bracket).
“I thought the team played really well today,” said Head Coach Jaoquin Santa Cruz. “We were consistent, and I was happy with how we pushed from point zero to point 21 in all the sets.”
Brophy improved to 11-2 on the season, setting a new school record for wins.
“Our competition only gets harder from here, but our confidence gets higher,” said Santa Cruz. “It was a good first-round win for us, and we should be feeling confident going into Wednesday.”
Gabe Keane and Brendan Escobar were victorious at No. 5 in straight sets, 24-122, 21-15 for the first point. Cody Bonheimer and Milo Piotrowski won at No. 4 in three sets (21-7, 15-21, 15-6). TJ Henry and Callaway Johnson clinched the match with the third point with a 21-12, 22-20 win at No. 4.
