Lacrosse’s Breyden Peitzmeier Commits to Westminster University
Lacrosse senior Breyden Peitzmeier has committed to play lacrosse and attend Westminster University, an NCAA Division II school in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“It's a beautiful campus; it has a great business school for me, awesome coaches, and players who were just awesome people,” said Peitzmeier. “Everybody there was so friendly and kind. Their system is perfect for my style and play. So I love it for that too. The facilities and the dorms are all just like fit and perfect for me. And then being right in the city helps.”
Peitzmeier will be near his brother Ryan ‘26, who is attending the University of Utah and was a standout for the Broncos. In fact, the two schools are seven minutes apart.
“That was definitely a factor, too,” said Peitzmeier about the schools' proximity. “My brother is my best friend and the person I'm closest with, so being able to stay next to him and be near him for the next four years will be awesome. We scrimmage them too, so I get to play against him.”
It will be a date to mark on the calendar for Breyden and his family. But his biggest accomplishment is just being back on the field after a tough start to his career.
He suffered injuries over his first two seasons, including a knee injury his freshman year and two dislocated knees, including a second injury two days before the first game of his sophomore season that required surgery.
“It feels as if Breyden has been in our lacrosse program for 8 years - and maybe that is because I started coaching him when he was in 5th grade,” said Head Coach Pat Harbeson. “Breyden's story and commitment to Westminster is a true testament to his character. After his injuries, Breyden reached a point where he wasn’t sure he wanted to play lacrosse again. Instead, he came back determined to make the most of the time he had left in the game. That determination has earned him the opportunity to continue his career at Westminster University, where he will compete for one of the top Division II lacrosse programs in the country.”
Peitzmeier will play for Brad Lavoie, who enters his second season as Head Coach of the Griffins Men's Lacrosse team in the 2026-27 season.
“It means the world to me,” Peitzmeier said about the opportunity. “Lacrosse has always been my number one thing. I've played all the sports growing up, but lacrosse has always been my main sport, and for me to have fought through injuries, through the midst of my high school career, to be able to continue and get the opportunity to play in college is mind-blowing to me and means the world.”
After the setbacks, he was part of the Broncos’ state championship team as a junior after being relegated to the sidelines during titles in his first two seasons.
“I’m finally a senior, so now you're the leader of the team, so I'm excited to just get the season going, coach up the younger kids, make sure the team's chemistry is at its full potential,” said Peitzmeier. “I am excited to be working with all my teammates and hopefully bring home another state championship.”
With his experience as a junior, he is looking ahead to the upcoming spring season.
“I learned a lot because that was kind of my first real experience being on the field,” recalled Peitzmeier. “My junior year, I learned so much about what it's like to play in the game, being there for your teammates in the game or dealing with momentum shifts. Being on the field, it's so much different than watching on the sideline, as well as developing skills and chemistry with my teammates.”
Peitzmeier plays for Team 48 in the offseason and likes to play basketball, box, and play golf in his free time.
“This year, Breyden will be tasked with leading our defense,” said Harbeson. “He has already made his presence felt this fall with his mentorship to younger players. I’m incredibly proud of Breyden—not only for the work he has put in to reach this point, but for the resilience, commitment, and leadership he has shown throughout his time in our program.”
Peitzmeier will participate in the Brophy College Commitment ceremony on Nov. 11.
