Golf Wins Third Straight State Championship

The Brophy golf team made history at the 2026 AIA Division I golf tournament, winning a third straight state title and a new state record: 12th overall in school history. It was their fourth title in the last five years.

Senior Asher Nelson earned individual medalist honors with a 10-under-par 134 after a final-round 65. He opened with a 30 on the front nine with six birdies and closed with a 35. His lone bogey came at the 12th hole, but he responded with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes. His final birdie gave him the lead, which he held for the title. It was his best career finish at the state tournament after tying for 2nd in 2025 and tying for fifth in 2024.

He is the first individual medalist for Brophy since Tyler Spielman captured the title in 2022.

Senior Evan Tyree was tied for fourth after his own 65 (-7) to finish at eight-under par 146. He is committed to Texas A&M. He shot a front nine 31 with birdies at the 1st, 4th, and eighth holes and an eagle on the fifth. He carded two birdies on the back nine for a 34.

Senior Jack Langbein (Grand Canyon) was ninth overall after rounds of 69-70, recording his third consecutive Top 10 finish (T7th in 2025 and T10th in 2024).

Junior Hank Miller tied for 19th overall (73-73–146) and senior Luke Staples was 23rd at even par, highlighted by a 69 in the final round.

Brophy set the state record with their 12th state title, breaking a previous tie with Thatcher and Arcadia at 11 state titles.
