Golfer Jack Langbein Commits to Grand Canyon University
Brophy senior golfer Jack Langbein has committed to attend Grand Canyon University and play golf.
“I really like the coach,” said Langbein. “He is a great guy and really cares about you as a person. He texts me every week to say he is praying for me and checking in on my process. It shows he really cares and is the type of coach I want to play for.”
Langbein will play for Head Coach Mark Mueller, who enters his 14th season at the helm of the men’s golf program in 2026-27 and 15th overall in the program after serving as assistant coach in 2012-13. Grand Canyon is coming off a fourth straight postseason appearance in 2025-26, winning the National Golf Invitational. In its first season in the Mountain West, GCU finished top five in six tournaments and fourth place at the conference championship
“It is really cool to play for the hometown school and have the opportunity to be close to home,” said Langbein. “I am excited to play some similar courses and home tournaments. It is really exciting.”
Jack has been a three-year letter winner for the Broncos. He transferred in from IMG after attending Notre Dame Prep.
“I am so excited about my decision to come to Brophy,” said Langbein. “I knew I should have come here freshman year, but I think everything happened for a reason. I made the team sophomore year, and being able to play on the state team the last two years has meant a lot. I'm so happy with my decision, and I love this place.”
Coach Shores and his teammates helped him adjust as a new student, and he eventually found a spot in the lineup. He has placed in the top 10 at the state championships twice, finishing T7th in 2025 (70–70) and T10th in 2024(69-73).
He was an All-Arizona honorable mention in 2025 and has been a two-time All-Central Region selection (First team in 2025 and second in 2024), as well as a two-time Sports360 AZ All-Academic selection.
He built on last year's success this year. He tied for medalist honors at the Brophy Invitational with a birdie, birdie, eagle finish and tied with Evan Tyree at the Wolverines Versus the World event in Florida.
“I have gained a lot of confidence with my game,” said Lagbein. “I have played well in the Brophy Invitational and in Florida as co-champion and got second at the Peak Invitational. I am really excited about the state tournament, and I have played well there.”
Head Coach Jon Shores has seen his senior's growth.
“Jack’s trajectory over his high school career represents one of the most remarkable transformations I have witnessed as a coach,” said Shores. “Driven by an intense desire to compete and win, Jack sought out top competition at every opportunity, earning himself a respected name across Arizona junior golf. Despite his rapid rise and individual success, Jack has remained remarkably humble, coachable, and dedicated to unifying the team. GCU is getting a resilient competitor and dedicated teammate who will stop at nothing to help his program succeed.”
Langbein will participate in the Brophy Collegiate Commitment ceremony on Nov. 11.
