Former Coach Succow Earns ABCA Award

Former Baseball Coach Tom Succow Honored by ABCA


 

Tom Succow has been selected as the distinguished recipient of the 2027 American Baseball Coaches Association Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.

Tom Succow is entering his 9th season with the Roughriders in 2026. He came to the Yavapai College baseball program after 42 years of service at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom will be in charge of coaching the outfielders and will assist in coaching hitters.

During that time, Mr. Succow was an English teacher, College Counselor, and baseball coach. In May of 2017, Coach Succow completed his 40th year as head baseball coach of the Brophy Broncos, amassing 725 wins with a State Title in 2006 and State Runners-up in 1982, 2007, and 2012.

Mr. Succow is a 1974 graduate of Arizona State University, where he received a B.A. with an emphasis in English. He went on to earn an M.Ed from ASU in Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Succow began his career in education as an English instructor, football coach, and baseball coach at Casa Grande Union High School in the fall of 1974, before his tenure at Brophy began in 1975. During his 42 years at Brophy, Coach Succow had the honor of working with numerous student athletes who have gone on to become excellent professionals as well as outstanding husbands and fathers. Over these 40-plus years, Tom has had the luxury of working with great assistant coaches who exhibited the class, dignity and integrity that Brophy requires of faculty and staff. All of these men have had a tremendous influence on Mr. Succow and his coaching. During his tenure at Brophy, Coach Succow and his staff were named Baseball Coaching Staff of the year 9 times.

Mr. Succow has served on five USA Baseball National Team coaching staffs. In 2003, he was an assistant for the Gold Medal-winning 16U National Team that defeated Chinese Taipei; in 2004, he was Head Coach of the 16U Silver Medal Team. In 2007, Coach Succow served as Head Coach of the inaugural 14U USA National Team that twice won Gold, once in Guatemala and again in Puerto Rico. In 2010, he was an assistant on the 18U USA national Team.

In January of 2007, Coach Succow was named National High School Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He is a member of four Halls of Fame, having been inducted into the Brophy Hall of Fame, the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the National High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, and the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Tom has been married to his wife Barbara for 40+ years, and they have two daughters and five grandchildren. Barbara and Tom have taken up residence in Prescott and look forward to serving Yavapai College student-athletes.
