Football's Shane Reiersgaard Commits to North Dakota

Football’s Reiersgaard Commits to the University of North Dakota

Brophy senior offensive lineman Shane Reiersgaard has committed to attend the University of North Dakota and play football. The Fighting Hawks compete in the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. 

 

“It was a pretty hard decision,” recalled Reiersgaard. “All of the schools that were looking at me were really nice, and I appreciate those coaches. I committed because I love UND's facilities and have many family members in the area. When I stepped off the plane in Grand Forks, I felt like I belonged there. My dad is from North Dakota, and the local family ties include my Aunt Patty, Uncle Todd, and cousins in Minnesota.”

 

Reiersgaard will play for Head Coach Eric Schmidt and offensive line coach Trevor Olson. 

 

“Coach Olson is a super cool guy, and I have been in contact with him regularly,” said Reiersgaard, who plans to study business or criminal justice. “His coaching style is similar, as well as the style of offense played by UND.”

 

Schmidt is in his third tenure on the UND staff, returning to lead the program after working at Washington, San Diego State, and Fresno State.

 

“I have always dreamed of playing college football at the Division I level,” said Reiersgaard. “It has always been something I have loved to do. Getting the opportunity to play more football is all I can ask for.”

 

Reiersgaard was a 2026 All-Central Region selection and has been a two-time AZSports360 All-Academic honorable mention selection. He lists going to Kairos and team retreats at Manresa among his favorite highlights. 

 

“The experience I had as a junior helped a lot,” said Reiersgaard. “The pressure has been taken off me. I got great experience playing with Anderson Kopp (Kansas) and Logan Powell (Wisconsin) as the sixth man as a sophomore, and to start last season was super fun. It was a big responsibility, given how young we were last year. We are super excited to start this season.”

 

Head coach Jason Jewell has seen the growth in his rising senior lineman.

 

“North Dakota is getting a versatile and powerful lineman,” said Brophy Head Coach Jason Jewell. “Shane has played tackle for us, but has shown this summer he can play all five spots. He earned an offer at North Dakota's camp and jumped on it.”

 

“We are aiming to win a championship and make it to the Open playoffs,” said Reiersgaard. We have some good competition on our schedule. I just want to do my best. I have been working hard in the offseason on both the run and pass game. I want to be the leader for the team that I am striving to be.”
