Basketball Advances to Father Barry Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Brophy basketball team advanced to the championship game of the 49th Father Barry Christmas Classic hosted by Jesuit High School with a 62-46 victory over St. Mary’s (Calif.) on Friday night.

Junior Ryan Burbach led the team with 11 points as 12 players scored in the contest. Sophomore Daylen Sharper added nine points, while senior Braeden Speed contributed eight points in the win.

Brophy took control of the game with an 11-0 run in the first quarter to take a 14-4 lead in the contest after eight minutes. The Rams answered with an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 16-15 with 4:20 left in the half. The Broncos pushed the lead back to 28-20 at the break.

Burbach had two of his three triples in the third as Brophy extended the lead to 13 points and led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter.

Brophy has won the Fr. Barry Classic three times: 1981, 2017, and 2021. The Broncos are now 5-0 on the season including a 63-45 win over Bellarmine Prep in the tournament opener on Thursday.

Mitty advanced to the final with a 74-37 win over Strake Jesuit from Houston. The final can be seen on Norcal Sports TV on YouTube at 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. in Arizona)
