Seven Seniors Make Collegiate Athletic Commitments

Seven Brophy College Preparatory seniors made their collegiate athletics commitments official on April 19 in a ceremony in the Robson Gymnasium. The group included representatives from five different sports attending schools from coast to coast.

The 2023 spring signing class included Finnegan Crawford (Swimming, Boston College University), Connor Fitzgerald (Basketball, Pomona College), Gabe Gonda (Swimming, Georgetown University), Matt Habovstak (Soccer, Loyola Marymount University), Conner Ivy (Basketball, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University/Prescott), Charlie Palmer (Golf, Princeton University) and Stevan Trbovic (Crew, Santa Clara). Overall, 14 student-athletes from the Class of 2023 have made commitments.

Crawford earned a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.58) and the 100-yard butterfly (50:57) at the 2022 AIA Division I State Championships and was part of two Brophy relays. He was an All-Premier region in the 200 free relay and earned second-team accolades in the 200 freestyle and 400-free relay.
 
Connor averaged 13.0 points per game before his injury last season. He was a Sports360AZ All-Academic selection Fitzgerald’s academic resume is impressive, preparing him for Pomona-Pitzer, including  18 honors and AP classes. 

Gonda recorded a pair of top-three finishes at the AIA State Championships. He placed third in the 100 backstroke in a time of 51.03 and second in the 100 butterfly in 49.87. Gonda also led off the 200 medley relay that touched fourth at the state meet. The 200 freestyle relay also placed fourth. Both relays were All-Premier Region first-team choices

Habostak played center back and right back for Phoenix Rising after playing for Brophy as a freshman.

Ivy averaged 6.6 points per game and shot better than 52 percent from the floor and 32 percent beyond the arc with 4.2 rebounds per contest. He was an All-Premier Region second-team selection and Sports260AZ All-Academic selection as a senior.

Palmer finished off his senior season with an AIA Division State Team Championship, helping the Broncos to a record-breaking performance in winning the state title. Palmer was second overall at the state tournament with rounds of 65 and 67 to earn all-state honors. He also was an All-Premier Region first-team selection and named to the All-Arizona team by the Arizona Republic for the second consecutive year. He was also a three-time Sports360AZ All-Academic selection and was the Brophy nominee for the AIA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Trbovic’s top results this season include finishing second in the double at Long Beach Invitational, first in the quad and third in the double at Desert Sprints, and second at Arizona Indoor Rowing Championship.
