Archery Wins Third Consecutive State Title

The Brophy College Preparatory archery team won its third consecutive state championship at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State finals. They completed their competition last month, but the final tabulation was not done until this week as northern Arizona schools finished their events.

The Broncos won both the Bullseye and 3D competitions, posting scores of 3,250 in Bullseye and 1,674 in 3D. Lisa Fischer and Scott Wagy coach the team.

“During the State championship tournament, Coach Scott Wagy and I saw a very different team from what we saw all year long,” recalled Fischer. “We were now seeing a champion team. On the range, they put into practice Coach Scott's four Cs: Calm, Control, Consistent, and Confidence.”

For the Bullseye individual scores, Luciano Beninato '24 finished fifth with a score of a 283 out of 300. Michael Sisco ‘24 was in sixth place with 281, and Jonah Bae ‘24 was just two points back at 279 for 10th place overall.

Beninato won the 3D competition with a score of 292 out of 300. The Broncos had three others in the Top 10 finishers, including Hunter Adams ‘24 in fourth place with 281, Sisco in seventh with 279, and Joshua Mamola ‘26 in ninth place with 275.

“With the loss of our top archers from last year, this was a rebuilding year for the team,” said Fischer. “Not only did the team win State, but this was also their best-recorded score of all four years of archery at Brophy! Our motto this season was, "Be better than you were yesterday", and it has paid off tremendously. We are proud of the team and their hard work in this competitive season.”
