Basketball Advances to AIA 6A State Championship Game on #MadiMiracle

Senior Arman Madi hit a buzzer-beater to propel the Broncos to the AIA 6A State Championship game on Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum with a 66-63 victory over No. 3 seed Boulder Creek. Brophy will play No. 1 seed Highland at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available at GoFan.co.

“I have excitement for our players to have the opportunity to experience a state championship and compete for a title,” said Head Coach Matt Hooten. “There is an incredible amount of joy for our school community and the alums that have come before this group.”

Brophy will be seeking the first state championship in basketball in school history. It will be the fourth championship berth overall, finishing as a runner-up in 1986, 2001 and 2011.

With the game tied at 63, Brophy (24-8) forced a missed shot by Boulder Creek, and senior Connor Ivy rebounded it and hit Madi with a long outlet pass. He pulled up for a running three-pointer from the left side and hit it off the backboard in front of the Brophy student section.

Madi finished with a game-high 26 points with seven three-pointers, including the game-winner, his only basket of the fourth quarter.  Junior Braeden Speed scored 17 points, including nine in the third quarter when the Broncos took a 54-49 lead after trailing by one at the half (34-33).
