Students Participate in ISN Arrupe Leaders Summit

PHOENIX – Earlier this month, six students traveled to the Arrupe Leaders Summit in California to spend a weekend working with peers from other Jesuit high schools on developing leadership skills based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, as well as Fr. Pedro Arrupe's emphasis on leading for social justice. Sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network, summits are held in different locations throughout the country so that students from all provinces can participate.

Zeid Arekat '24, Wilson Bryant '24, Adarius Gammage '25, Diego Moreno '25, Santiago Sanchez '25 and Ben Edwards '26 represented Brophy.

From Zeid:
"The Arrupe Leaders Summit was an amazing experience for me. I had the opportunity to meet new friends from across the country and work on social justice initiatives. The biggest takeaway from the summit was the importance of collaboration and teamwork in creating real change. It was amazing to work with other Jesuit high schoolers who shared my passion for social justice and together we were able to make a real impact.

Collaborating with these like-minded individuals was incredibly empowering and gave me a sense of purpose. I learned so much from my fellow attendees and was inspired by their dedication and commitment to making a positive difference in the world.

I hope to bring what I've learned from the Arrupe Summit back to my campus involvement. I am eager to share my experiences with others and to continue working towards creating a more just and equitable world. I am confident that my newfound knowledge and skills will enable me to make a real impact on my campus and in my community."

From Ben:
"My biggest takeaway from the Arrupe Leader Summit is knowing that even if people say no, always keep pushing.  It was very nice collaborating with other Jesuit high schoolers because you got to see their perspectives on problems at their school."
