Get to Know Basketball's Connor Fitzgerald

Connor Fitzgerald is a returning letterwinner to the varsity team. He has a sister who plays beach volleyball at ASU and a younger brother, Carter, who played football and just made the JV “A” soccer team at Brophy. He loves to do magic tricks. Just give me a deck of playing cards.

What is your basketball history?
“My first word was ball and I have loved basketball since I was a kid. I have played every sport - football, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse. But it has been only basketball since eighth grade. It has been my biggest athletic passion.”

What are you most excited about for your senior year?
“I am trying to get the most out of it and the entire high school experience. Spending weekends with friends and weeknights with my family while embracing my last few months at Brophy. It is such a unique environment.”

What are your college plans?
“Throughout the recruiting process, the focus has been on high academic schools. I have singled it down to Claremont McKenna University. I am not 100 percent committed because I am still pending the admission process. But if I get in without the assistance of their head coach, I will have a slot on the team as well.”

What has it meant to you to play for the Brophy Basketball program?
“The Brophy basketball program is one of the most important things in my life. I have dedicated so much time over the last four years to the program. The winter schedule is rigorous. Christmas break is challenging for me and my family. But the memories I made last year with the guys during the 2021-22 season were some of the best of my life.”

What are you looking forward to about the Portland trip?
“It is the last travel tournament of my high school career. The hotel rooms and dinners are an amazing time with the team. I want to immerse into that five-day period but at the forefront of our mind is winning. It is a business trip and we want to get win.”

How important was your summer development?
“Last year as a junior, I started 12 games and was a sixth/seven man. This year with so many seniors leaving, I have had a huge step up in the importance of my role. I am proud of myself for how I executed over the summer and stepped up the challenge of being more of a leader of the team.”

How much fun is it to play at home?
“It is a credit to the fan base because we have so much support. The Hoopcoming game and playoffs are such an amazing atmosphere. I remember running out of the locker room last year and getting the chills seeing all the support for us.”
