Native American Heritage Month Marked at Brophy

One of the busiest groups on campus is the Brophy Native American Club which includes students from both Brophy and Xavier. They recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., where they co-hosted the Oak Flat Unity Summit and met with Arizona legislators and other officials in support of the Save Oak Flat Act. According to club moderator Cooper Davis '10, "The youth testimony was powerful and we hope opens the hearts and minds of our leaders to act on this critical legislation that will protect our land, water and spirits." Cronkite News/PBS published this article spotlighting the advocacy efforts of the BNAC.

As a way to further acknowledge and celebrate Native American Heritage Month, members of the BNAC also spoke at a Brophy Cultural Project event on Nov. 28, with the theme, "We're Still Here." Five students shared their unique experiences as members of indigenous tribes.
