Sixteen Broncos Earn All-Region Honors

Senior running back David Lopez, offensive lineman Luis Gastelum and defensive lineman David Sweetman earned 6A Northeast Valley Region first-team honors. They were among sixteen Broncos who were honored with all-region accolades by a vote of the coaches.

Lopez had 1,551 rushing yards on the season, the second-best total in the 6A Conference, the 11th-best total in the state, and the eighth-best all-time single-season mark in school history. He recorded a team-best 10 rushing touchdowns and totaled 11 on the season. He also set the single-game carries record with 46 against Pinnacle, recorded four of the top 10 marks this season, and finished with a school-record 319 carries. He rushes for a school-record nine consecutive 100-yard games to finish the season, recording 200 or more three times.

Leading the offensive line in front of Lopez was senior Luis Gastelum. The Broncos averaged 146.0 yards per game on the ground this season behind Lopex and the line.

Senior David Sweetman had 31 tackles over nine games and recorded 9.5 tackles for loss to rank second on the team. He finished his career second on the career list with 29.

Four defensive players earned 6A Northeast Valley Region second-team honors including junior defensive lineman Mardale Rowe, senior linebacker Strider Aston, sophomore defensive back Cree Thomas and senior Sam Williams in the flex position.

Rowe led the team with 13.5 tackles for loss, the seventh-best total in school history, with 4.5 sacks, while Aston led the team in total tackles (67) and soles (47) to go with eight tackles for loss the third-best total on the team. Thomas recorded an interception and team-best-tying four passes defended with his 27 tackles.
Williams ranked seventh on the team in tackles (36) despite missing the last three games.

The Broncos had nine players earned all-region honorable mention including senior wide receiver Layton Duncan, junior offensive lineman Kharlo Sandez, senior tight end Connor Young senior flex Cort Ostendorf, junior defensive lineman Trey Markham, senior defensive back Danny Segoviano, junior offensive lineman Ryan Brown, junior offensive lineman Chaz Carson and junior wide receiver Jacob Buggie.
