Tennis Players Establish "Overhead Opportunities"

Four tennis players from Brophy's state championship team have formed Overhead Opportunities to give underserved youths a chance to learn the game of tennis. Sophomores Arin Gopakumar, Naren Gudavalli, Logan Phillips and Ryan Zerbib are working with the Challenge Foundation to offer tennis lessons to middle school students. The group applied for a grant which has provided new tennis rackets for all participants, as well as tennis balls and cones.

Pamela Frank-Cole of the Challenge Foundation said, "I want to commend the Brophy students on a job well done. Noah, Arin, Ryan and Naren are ready to receive students every Saturday, having already set up equipment, wheeled in the cooler and decided on a game plan for the session. They greet each student by name upon arrival and welcome them to the court."

After each session, the Overhead Opportunities team sends out a newsletter with photos, a recap of the session and the upcoming schedule.

Brophy Tennis is a perennial top-finisher in 6A tennis. In May 2022, the team won its 22nd state championship.
