Golf’s Trevor Karber to Sign with the University of San Diego

Brophy College Preparatory senior golfer Trevor Karber has committed to playing golf and attending school at the University of San Diego in the fall.

“The coaches are awesome, Chris Riley and Sam Foust,” said Karber. “Coach Riley was Tiger Wood’s Ryder Cup partner and has been in the Top 20 in the world. He knows my game well and is a good coach. Coach Foust was a national champion at Oregon who played college golf at a high level. Both can help me transform my game.”

Riley is in his sixth season at USD, leading the Torrero’s program to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances and the school’s first NCAA Championship appearance in 2021 in 10 years.

“It is a really good school and overlooks the water,” said Karber. “It is small, but you get the feel of a bigger school. I am excited about the opportunities playing college golf will allow me and they have a terrific alumni network.”

Karber plans to study business and minor in real estate. USD plays in the West Coast Conference.

Karber follows in the footsteps of his mom, Page, who played collegiate golf at Louisiana State University from 1991-94. After playing club baseball until eighth grade, he decided to focus on golf. But he did not make the talented Brophy team as a freshman.

“Trevor just missed making the team his freshman year,” said Head Coach Jon Shores. “What was his response? He worked his tail off, easily made the team his sophomore year and made the state team his senior year. Trevor knows how to put in the effort to improve and it has paid off on the course.”

Karber has averaged a 36.1 scoring average over nine rounds during his senior season. He was ninth at the Brophy Invitational, 25th at the Dobson Classic after a final-round and season-best 71 and carded a three-under 33 to place second in the dual against Perry and Chandler on Sept. 6. He helped the Broncos win three team tournament titles this season.

“Our big goal this year is to win state,” said Karber. “We have a close, tight-knit team. We have a lot of talent and push each other. The scoring averages were close. I am excited to play next week and help my team do something we have not done in a while.”

Karber has enjoyed his final season highlighted by his final trip to Manresa for the golf team retreat and another trip to Florida for the Honda Classic High School Invitational.

“I’ve loved my Brophy experience,” said Karber. “I am incredibly grateful.”

He plays in his first state championship Oct. 26-27 looking to make new memories.

“I hope to give our team a chance to win,” said Karber. “It is our end goal. We are happy to win events like the Brophy Invitational and Brophy Rodeo but our main goal is to win a state championship”.

He will participate in the Brophy Collegiate Signing Celebration on Nov. 9. He joins several classmates including JT Craig, with who he attended grade school together at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School.

“Sharing the stage with my classmates I have gotten to know over the last four years is special,” said Karber. “It is a culmination of your hard work coming together, and your next four years are going to be the best of your life. This is the start of it.”
