Ethan Lacey is competing for the Brophy diving team for the first time this season after doing crew and wrestling over his first three seasons. He is also a member of the Chess team.
What is your diving history?
“I just started diving this year for senior year. From fifth to seventh grade, I did gymnastics. I rode crew my freshman and sophomore year. I wrestled last year.”
How does your gymnastics background help with diving?
“It has really helped with the flipping, but I am brand new on the board. It is different.”
What motivated you to go out for diving this year?
“My friend Carter asked me if I wanted to, and I said yes.”
What are your goals this season?
“I want to do the best I can and qualify for state.”
How did the Brophy Invite go for you?
“I am still new, so I am not super competitive with it. I did not fail any dives so that was cool.”
What are you going to do this month to strive to get a state qualifier?
“I will work on my technique. I have enough degree of difficulty, but I do not score extremely high.”
What is a fun fact about Ethan?
“I really enjoy playing chess. I play for Brophy. The chess team’s state finals are the same weekend as Dive State finals. I hope it works out.”
What are your college plans at this point?
“I want to major in chemical engineering and then go to medical school. I am applying to a bunch of schools, and I am looking forward to seeing where I get in.”
