Brophy Senior Wins Health Care Hero Award

When the pandemic hit, Nicolas Cevallos '23 would hear stories from his mother, an infectious disease doctor, of families who could not find affordable health care. Understanding how health issues devastate lives when care is not accessible, Nicolas decided to see if he could help fill the need.

He taught himself to code and also reached out to the Phoenix Health Department and to hospitals to find low-cost resources. With this accumulated knowledge, he launched his website: www.saludquepuedespagar.org (Health care you can afford). The website offers information in both Spanish and English and has received thousands of hits. Additionally, Paradise Valley Food Bank reached out to Nicolas asking if he could assist their clientele.

A true man for others, Nicolas is already modeling the ideals of the Jesuit-educated graduate at graduation: intellectual competence, open to growth, loving, religious and committed to doing justice.
