Brophy to Hold Tim Sanford Night at Home Opener

The 2022 home opener for the Brophy College Preparatory football program against St. Mary’s will be recognized as “Tim Sanford Night” to celebrate the life of the man who played a significant role in the history of both programs in the storied rivalry. Friends, family, former players, and students of Sanford are invited to join us at the rivalry game on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Central High School. Tickets will be available on GoFan.

Sanford, who was inducted into the Arizona High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Brophy Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022, led the Broncos from 1985-2002, compiling a 128-70-2 record and 16-13 playoff record with three regional championships, four state semifinal appearances and two state runner-up teams in 1996 and '98. He was named the state coach of the year three times.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s, where he played for Ed Doherty on two state championship teams (1967 and 1968) and a state runner-up team in 1969. He led the Broncos against his former teammate Pat Farrell at the height of the rivalry between the schools.

He was also inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in Iowa in June posthumously.

Alumni are asked to contribute to the event by providing their memories of Coach Tim Sanford.
