Palmer Falls in Round of 16 at U.S. Jr. Amateur

BANDON, Ore. - Rising senior Charlie Palmer lost in the Round of 16 Thursday afternoon to Jeffrey Guan of Australia 5 & 4 at the 74th U.S. Jr. Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Course. He had advanced with two wins in match play on Wednesday and Thursday morning after finishing in the top 64 of stroke play.

“I played great on a big stage and exceeded my expectations,” said Palmer after the round. “It was an awesome experience to advance in match play and I hope to be back next year.”

Guan won the opening hole with a birdie, one of eight he posted over 14 holes. Palmer tied the match with a par on the second before Guan won four of the next six holes to lead at the turn. He extended the lead by winning the 11th with a birdie and 12th hole with a par. Palmer held off elimination with an eagle on the 549-yard 13th hole before Guan closed it out.

Palmer is entering his senior season at Brophy. He led the Broncos to a second-place finish at the AIA Division I State Championships in 2021 after finishing fifth overall.
