Rising Senior Charlie Palmer Advances to Round of 32 at U.S. Jr. Amateur 

BANDON, Ore. - Rising senior Charlie Palmer advanced to the Round of 32 with a 2 and 1 victory over No. 21 Hunter Thomson of Canada in the opening round of match play at the 74th U.S. Jr. Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Course. 
Palmer, who was the No. 44 seed after stroke play, jumped out to 3 up lead after winning three of the first four holes in the match with three early birdies. After a pair of pars on the fifth hole, Thomson responded with two birdies to cut the lead to one after seven holes. Palmer stopped the streak with a birdie at eight. Thomson then tied the match with back-to-back birdies on 9 and 10. 

Palmer took the lead back with a birdie 2 on the par-3 12
th only to have Thomson birdie the 13th hole. Palmer would birdie the par-3 15th hole and won the 14th with a par as Thomson posted a bogey on 16. He closed out the match on 17 as both players posted pars. 

Palmer will face Mason Synder of the United States at 8:24 a.m. on Thursday. Snyder, who is from Las Vegas, is the No. 54 seed after stroke play and upset No. 12 Harvey Young of Australia 3 and 2.
