Tennis Coach Eric Chalmers Named Arizona Republic Coach of the Year

Brophy College Preparatory tennis coach Eric Chalmers ‘10 was named the Arizona Republic’s All-Arizona Boys Tennis Coach of the Year. Chalmers led the Broncos to the AIA Division I state championship, an undefeated 18-0 record including a 14-0 regular season record and a Premier Region title. It was the fourth state championship under Chalmers since 2017.  

Chalmers has also been named the AIA Division I State Coach of the Year and the Section Coach of the Year in 2022. 
The announcement was made by the newspaper on Sunday, June 5. Brophy Prep senior Jack Brown ‘22 was also a member of the 12-player All-Arizona team and is a nominee for the player of the year. Bronco tennis student-athletes Hank Brown ‘23, Ryan Zerbib ‘25, Hadley Kukla ‘23, Kentaro Akiyoshi ‘24, and Andre Johnson ‘24 were All-Arizona honorable mention selections.  

The Republic's boy's tennis player of the year will be announced at the annual Arizona Sports Awards event on June 11. For more information about the event, visit sportsawards.usatoday.com/arizona. 

Selections were made by Republic staff based on a variety of factors, including individual and team records, rankings, and post-season recognition from the AIA based on coach's input, performances in the state championship tournament, and other factors.
