2022 Brophy College Prep Tennis Season in Review

Brophy College Preparatory won the 2022 Division I team championship with a 5-0 win over No. 2 seed Chaparral. It was the 22nd team championship in school history and fourth over the last six seasons. Here are the team and individual highlights from the championship season:

The Broncos defeated Hamilton (5-0), Desert Vista (5-0), and Basha (5-1) on the way to the championship.

Head Coach Eric Chalmers ‘10 was named the Division I State Coach of the Year after leading the team to an 18-0 record including a 14-0 regular-season record and Premier Region title. He was also named the Section Coach of the Year.
Jack Brown ‘22 and Hank Brown ‘23 were chosen the Division I Doubles Players of the Year after winning the title. They won the Division I doubles title over teammates Andre Johnson ‘24 and Kentaro Akiyoshi ‘24 by the score of 6-1, 6-1 in the final.
No. 6 seed Ryan Zerbib ‘25 and No. 8 seed Hahley Kukia ‘23 both advanced to the Division I singles quarterfinals.
Jack Brown was named the Premier Region Player of the Year and Section Singles Player of the Year.
Hank Brown and Kukla were named to the 2022 All-Premier Region first team, while Johnson and Akiyoshi were first team doubles selections.
Naren Gudavalli ‘25, Nick Maroulis ‘22 and Christian Smith ‘22 were all-region honorable mention selections.
The Broncos competed at the 21st Annual National High School Tennis All-American Boys Team Tournament in Newport, Calf., posting a 3-1 record to win the Consolation bracket and tie for the best finish in school history at the event. Jack Brown was named to the All-Tournament team.
Brophy also won the Kiwanis Invitational with Andre Johnson and Christian Smith teaming to win the doubles tournament, Blake del Ghiaccio and Aidan Lin took third place in doubles, while Austin Kos was the singles runner up, and Tyler Woo made the quarterfinals of singles.
