DeCremer to Sign with Oregon State Baseball

Brophy senior right-hander James DeCremer will sign to play baseball and attend Oregon State University in the fall.

“I committed to Oregon State in 2020 after they won the 2018 National Championship,” said DeCremer, who plans to study business. “I had some great conversations with (Head Coach) Mitch Canham and (Assistant Coach) Rich Dorman and OSU quickly became my top choice. They have strong core values based on family and team. I had the same vibe with the program and coaches when I went on my visit, and I am happy with my choice.”

DeCremer joins an Oregon State program coming off the eighth NCAA Super Regional appearance in school history in 2022 and a Pac-12 Conference best 48 wins to finish second in conference standings.

“I am beyond excited,” said DeCremer. “After the first two years with the new staff, they have a lot of guys coming back and I am excited to see how they do this season.”

DeCremer posted a junior season where he made 10 starts and pitched 51.1 innings. He recorded a 5-2 record with a 3.47:1strikeout-to-walk ratio (66/19) and a 1.64 ERA for the season.

“JD is a true "Ace pitcher",” said Head Coach Josh Garcia ‘07. “He's a competitor that wants the ball in big games. He is a tone setter for our entire pitching staff and will go down as one of the best pitchers to come through our program. I am proud of what he has accomplished on the field thus far, but prouder of his growth and maturation as a young man the last four years. JD has a bright future ahead of him and Oregon State is getting an elite competitor.”

He was named to the 6A Conference all-state and 6A Premier Region first teams as a junior. He enters his senior season as the second overall ranked recruit in Arizona and No. 51 in the nation by Prep Baseball Report.

“I try not to pay attention to it and not be too high or too low,” said DeCremer of the recruiting rankings.

With a four-pitch arsenal (fastball, change up, slider and curveball), DeCremer is ready to help his team have a big season. They made the 6A playoffs a year ago but hope to make a deep run in 2023.

“I have never been on a team this close, and I am impressed with the new guys coming up on the varsity,” said DeCremer, who likes to play chess in his free time.  “I believe in everyone. I see a lot of guys making great strides like sophomore Jack Lafflam and junior Johnny Casale.”

DeCremer will participate in the Brophy Collegiate Signing Celebration on campus at 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 9 in the Robson Gymnasium.
