The Personal Interview

All applicants (incoming freshmen and transfer students) are required to participate in a personal interview. Interviews will last approximately 15-20 minutes with either a Brophy faculty or staff member. There will be six scheduled afternoon/evenings (3:30-6:30 p.m.) in January for freshman applicant interviews.

We plan to hold personal interviews on campus in January 2021 but will also offer the option for virtual interviews.

Transfer student interviews will be scheduled in April and May. Please contact the Admissions Office in early April to schedule a time.

Answering Your Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Q Who conducts the interviews?

Each applicant will meet with either a Brophy administrator, teacher or staff member for a personal interview. Each applicant is randomly assigned an interviewer that afternoon once he checks in at the Student Activity Center (SAC).
  • Q How long does the interview last?

Generally, it lasts 15-20 minutes. Depending on the interviewer's schedule, you could be on campus approximately 30-45 minutes.
  • Q Where do we go for the interview?

Applicants (and parent) should check in in the Student Activity Center (SAC) at least five minutes prior to the interview appointment. Brophy students will escort your son to his interview while you remain in the SAC (you are welcome to bring younger siblings). Your son will return to the SAC within approximately 30 minutes.
  • Q What is the dress code for the interview?

There is no specific dress code. The applicant should wear whatever makes him comfortable and confident. Most students choose to wear a collared shirt and nice pants, or their school uniform.
  • Q Do parents participate in the interview?

Parents do not participate in the interview process. All applicants will check in at the Student Activity Center (SAC) where current Brophy students will escort them to their interview. Parents will wait for their son to return to the SAC.
  • Q If my son is nervous or anxious, what advice do you suggest?

Our best advice is for your son to be himself. Our interview is designed so that we learn more about him – his interests, his school and his family. There is nothing he needs to do to prepare for the interview. It is less of an "interview" and more of a conversation to get to know him.
