2010 Summit Job Fair
Welcome to the 2010 Brophy Job Fair! As a major part of this year’s Summit, the Brophy Job Fair is an event that will take place during the first two days of this year’s Summit on Human Dignity. The idea of this event is to place you (the student) into the shoes of a currently unemployed person who is desperately seeking a job to support himself and/or his family.
Upon arrival at the Job Fair you will receive a profile at the door of a currently unemployed based off of a real life situation. For example, the following may be one of the profiles that you will receive:
You are a single man living in an apartment in the Phoenix metropolitan area with a High School G.E.D. and your small business in custom shoes just went bankrupt and now you’re out of work and essentially out of money. In order to stay in your apartment and continue to live well you need to find a job that will pay at least $22,000 per year.
When inside of the Great Hall you will have to find a job that fits the requirements of your profile from over fifteen corporations created by students on the Summit Planning Team. The problem is you will be competing against the rest of the student body for about 800 jobs.
Once you have a job though, that does not mean that you are safe. Throughout the two weeks of the Summit the various companies that you work for will experience different setbacks resulting in layoffs, or even bankruptcy. These events will be announced after every key note speaker and updates will be posted daily on the Summit Centerpiece.
At the end of the week those who have managed to remain employed will receive some fabulous Summit related prizes! But just saying, there will not be many of you left… Good luck.
