Brophy Week Long Experience at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph, Canada
Dates: Monday, May 25th- Sunday, May 31st (possibly early morning return on Mon., June 1st)
Adult Leaders: Mr. Ron Douglas and Mr. Patrick Kolb
Cost: Approximately $850 (depending on airfare). Includes all travel, food, and housing.
Accommodations: Trip participants will be staying at the Ignatius Ecology Villa on the farm. The villa is a one storey building in the back of the property. It will be a nice inviting building. It has one big room, with a kitchen, washrooms and a shower. There is a large veranda (porch!) The participants will sleep dormitory style, and on mattresses on the floor.
Program: Since the Centre includes a fully functioning organic farm which will be in its’ high season students will be invited to do some work on the farm. They will join in the annual tree planting that occurs on the farm every May as well as connect with a local Canadian Catholic High School group doing an outdoor education programme. Additionally, trip participants will spend a significant amount of time with the Executive Director of the Centre, Fr. Jim Profit, S.J. (who is one our guests for the 2009 Summit on Human Dignity) and Ms. Marianne Karsh the Ecology Project Coordinator learning about eco-spirituality, organic farming and climate change. To wrap up their experience students will attend the Centre’s Land Blessing which is held once every year. For the Land Blessing participants go around the farm by tractor and wagon asking God's blessing on the land followed by an outdoor Mass, a pot-luck lunch, etc.
