Brophy goes Green

By: John Michell

At the beginning of this school year, Father Reese asked me to chair a new committee at Brophy, the Committee on Sustainability.  The purpose of this committee is to work towards the transition of the Brophy campus and culture toward that of a "Green School".  The definition of a Green School is "a school building or facility that creates a healthy environment that is conducive to learning while saving energy, resources and money."  It is the desire of this committee to engage the student population as well as the best minds in the field of energy efficient design to promote sustainable building and operating practices on the Brophy campus in order to capture the environmental, economic, health and community benefits of being "Green".  The creation of this committee is another demonstration of Brophy's commitment to doing the right thing and to be leaders is relevant social issues for our time and for our planet.
