December 2, 2008 ~ Power it up! ~ vs. Salpointe High, Tucson, AZ_
Tonight, BCP Varsity 'powered-up' their season by beating the Salpointe Lancers 49-47 and put their first 'Power Points' on the board in 5A-1 regular season play! Whooo, it was neat to see the Broncos 'staying-power' when they made a last second shot to go ahead for the win with less than 5 seconds to spare! Brophy's first half of play was balanced and very productive especially off the energized play of Jared Dimond who lit it up in the first half! Austin Johns was a 'tower-of-power' grabbing 4 quick rebounds to help finish the half ahead by 8 points. Salpointe got back in the game in the 4th with more agressive play and slick outside shooting, but your Brophy ballers would not fall! Tyler Hornacek took 2 big charges to change the momentum. But, tonight, Coach gave the 'Bronco Buster' award to
Ryan Harty who came up BIG just when we needed him ~ 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 10 points.
Broncos 'to the 13th power' -- great TEAM win!!!
Our JV guys saw their first action tonight as well. They are a good, young team, but were 'over-powered' by a BIG and more mature group of Juniors and Sophs who play for Salpointe. The final score was 47-65 in a Salpointe win. There was plenty to like about our JV squad. Matt Pohlman used his size well inside and James Harper showed a lot of poise scoring with defenders up on him. Tyler Miller was scrappy and Peter Scobas was a good floor leader at point. I expect these guys to win a lot of games this season! Power-on JV!
The 'power-hungry' Frosh team showed what they are capable of with a solid 52-42 win over the young Lancers. Fred Gammage drove the paint effectively and created nice ball movement at point. We saw some good 'power-plays' by forwards, Jordan Medl and Joey Mandros who had some nice finishes at the basket. Nathan Poore provided a needed spark off the bench in the 3rd. Best of all, our baby Broncos finished the game strong making 11 of 14 free throws and playing tough 'D' all the way to the buzzer. 'Power Bars' for everyone! Well done!
OK -- Now "Power-to-the Parents" You guys rock! THANK YOU for driving down to Tucson to create a wonderful cheering section for our season opener. The players and coaches really appreciate you! It was especially nice to see Varsity parents arrive early to watch the younger guys and for the JV, Frosh parents to stay and watch Varsity. Thanks for being there.
Next up -- Basha Bears this Thursday, Dec. 4th in OUR gym. The AZ Republic ranks them 3rd in 5A-1, so we will need to see you in the bleachers! Gooo Broncos!!

November 26, 2008 ~ Arrowhead Desert Classic ~ vs. Tolleson
Brophy played its 3rd game in the Arrowhead Desert Classic vs Tolleson tonight .... and by the time the whistles stopped Brophy won with a score of 65-60! Nice job Broncos!!
The refs were active tonight and I think Tolleson could have 'walked' home with all the travelling calls made in this contest. It was hard to get a game flow going, but Brophy played tough through all the stops. It was a total team effort tonight with key minutes from the bench especially Chris Pierre, John LaVanway and Sai Tummala. Tyler Hornacek was stopping at nothing on the boards, pulling in 8 rebounds. The back court whistled for Ryan Harty to grab and score and he did so with 22 points on the night. But, the personality of this group of Broncos is DEFENSE and they proved it again tonight pulling out the powerful Zone D to go up by 7 in the 3rd period.
OK -- so this was BCP's last stop before the regular season, and the experience over the last 3 days has been a good one. As Brophy begins to compete in the AIA power points on Tuesday, look for solid play at the guard position, strong bench support, consistent production from our forwards, 75% + free throws, and TOTAL TEAM DEFENSE to win the day for our Broncos!! I'll be whistling for that!
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you -- we are blessed to have our sons who are working so hard to be Brophy-ready for the season. Let's make sure they get extra pumpkin pie and are ready to get-to-it on Friday at 11:00 for practice. Enjoy your family time and blessing to you all!

November 25, 2008 ~ Arrowhead Desert Classic ~ vs. Shadow Mountain
The Matadors (Ole!) of Shadow Mtn. narrowly escaped the charge of the Broncos tonight! With a final score of 67-63, Brophy had 2 big chances to win in the final seconds of the game if not for an unforgiving rim at Cactus High in the second round of play at the Arrowhead Desert Classic. Shadow Mtn wins, but exhales at the buzzer.
The game tonight was a bull fight with the score going back and forth. Our Broncos fell behind in the second quarter but the tough Brophy defense came back in the 3rd to get us back in the game. John LaVanway came charging off the bench to get it done on both ends of the court with 13 points, a couple of key assists and over 6 rebounds. Ryan Milne kept the Matadors guessing which way to turn with solid play as the Brophy 'feisty' floor leader tonight.
So lessons were learned tonight: Next time we play Shadow Mountain -- Go for the Matador and NOT the cape! Ole!
Come on out tomorrow night at 5:30 for the final Brophy game at Cactus High vs. either Sunnyslope or Tolleson -- it'll be a good one!

November 24, 2008 ~ Arrowhead Desert Classic ~ vs. Westview
All right! First game of the season. Our opponent: Westview. And I don't know about the "west of you", but I thought our Broncos looked mighty fine in their debut!!
Brophy won 59-48 and advance in the Arrowheard Desert Classic to play Shadow Mountain tomorrow night at 5:30 at Cactus High School. The "view" from the coaches was that Bronco Defense was what made Westview ride off into the sunset tonight.
Rebounding was awesome with 8 boards each from Marques Valdez, Ryan Harty and Tyler Hornacek. Brophy scored a lot of points off those rebounds! Then, the Broncos back court kept Westviews' top scorer to just 13 points. A key stat tonight was that Brophy hit 80% of our free throws. This is a major improvement goal for our Broncos this year -- so good start guys!
So what is better than winning tonight? Seeing the BROPHY 6th MAN in full force at Cactus High tomorrow night at 5:30 tip-off!. The Shadow Mtn 6th men numbered about 30 tonight -- and they were LOUD. There is no school on Wednesday, so we want to see Brophy RED cheering on our Broncos in what will be a very tough match. Brophy can win -- but we need our FANS IN THE STANDS!!! So, strap on the armour and come-out to drown-out the Shadow Mtn. gang. We'll see you on the hard-court!

February 11
Hugs to my fellow Bronco Buddies: It was even at the half ----- and then, it was so hard to watch our Beloved Broncos just go practically scoreless in the 3rd and hand the win to Desert Mountain -- final score 32-51. One and done. Thanks, Broncos for a GREAT season of Brophy Basketball!

February 8
"Seein' Your" sons WIN!! Hey proud parents at Senior Night -- Varsity wins 49-47! There's nothing like "seein' your" Seniors win their last regular season game on the Broncos hardcourt! The court DID play hard tonight, but our boys hung in there. The entire stands were holding their breath as the last few seconds ticked off with the ball in Mountain Ridge hands, but at the buzzer, we were still ahead by two! Whew!
JV wins 53-37! The Mt. Ridge team played our boys very close through the first half as our Broncos struggled to finish their inside shots. But, seein' is believing, and I do believe we broke it open early in the 3rd period, and kept the pressure on all the way to the end of the game. JV had a spendid game to wrap up a splendid season. We all like what we 'see' in this team!
Our Frosh win 58-53! It was a scary 'scene' when the Frosh were down by 5 at the half, but they showed us thier efficient offense in the second half and put the game away. Our Frosh have put on a heck of a show this year. Congrats on having the best W-L record this year! We're seein' a great future for these boys!
Varsity starts the Region Play-offs next week. St. Mary's edged us out to take 1st place in the Region. Brophy was 2nd, Desert Mtn. 3rd, and Mt. Ridge 4th. The Regional play-offs will be played at St. Mary's Gym. Brophy will play Desert Mountain on Tuesday night, Feb.12. I will confirm the time. We can still find a way to make the State Play-offs -- I'm "seein' it" -- especially with such AWESOME Seniors! Go Broncos!!!

February 5
Super 2's Day!! Oh what a night, my fellow bleacher buddies!! The returns are in and Brophy Basketball is 'voted' the 'winner' in all 3 contests vs. Desert Mountain!! Frosh win by 2! JV is 'too' tough! Varisty wins, 'too'! Now, that's what I call Super Tuesday!
Broncos Varsity wins 48-44! The Desert Mountain Wolves were looking for a win tonight in the 'Red State', but Brophy led a defensive 'campaign' that gave them the win! Our outside shot wasn't so hot tonight, but we got it done with 2's inside. Victory!
JV left no doubt who was gonna win the 'popular vote' -- they win 43-29! They led this one all the way, with diligent work on the defensive end, and great execution of the offensive plan. Lots of points in the paint, great rebounding, and whatever it took. Way to overpower our Region Rivals!
Frosh kept the 'pundits' guessing who was going to win this match-up! It was decided by 2's, of course. After a physical contest, our young Broncos score '2' points 'to' go ahead, leaving only '2' seconds for Desert Mountain -- and it was 'too' late! Frosh win 43-41.
FRIDAY -- Big night. Senior night. Last home game of the regular season. Brophy needs this last win vs. Mountain Ridge to keep in the hunt for State Play-offs. We need our fans and our fams -- hugs and tears when our Seniors play and enjoy the memories of many a contest on thier Robson Gym floor. Standing O's are welcome! See you then.

February 1
Knock! Knock!
Who's there?
Knights.
Knights, who?
The Knights who LOST to Brophy tonight!! Whooooo-hoooo -- and this is NO JOKE!
Final score: A whopping 67-54!!
A couple of 3 pointers for Brophy started off the action, add a few more, and before you know it, St. Mary's calls a time-out! I mean this is no 'knock' on St. Mary's, but they were definitely wondering, "Are these the same guys we played last week?" It only gets better. The Knights are limited to only 8 pts. in the first quarter, and our Broncos are delivering 'one liners' left and right, from outside and inside -- up and down the floor -- the 6th man is going wild -- by half time, we are up by 16 points! Now, we knew the Knights would think this is no 'laughing' matter, and sure enough, they made their run at us in the 3rd, scoring 20 points to our 14 -- but "noooooooooooo", we were not going to let them get the last 'laugh' on us. Our Broncos played tough defense, and hit the big shots right when we needed 'em -- we made the free throws right when we needed 'em -- and when the winner was announced, guess 'Who's there'?? Our amazing Broncos and their coaching staff, who never gave up, and believed in themselves, and delivered the ultimate punch line. We WIN!! (Someone told me that this is the first Brophy win vs. St. Mary's for the Class of '08! -- so, a big break-through night for our Broncos!) Everybody's smiling now!
Our JV team also had a 'stand up' kind of Knight!! Great rotation from the bench kept St. Mary's wondering who was going to 'heckle' them next! The best they could do was tie us in the 3rd at 18-all, but Brophy got out their best 'material', and before you knew it, they had the game in the bag, winning 46-35! The stands were pretty much full by the final buzzer, and this final quarter by our JV team was the perfect 'warm up act'!! Congratulations, gentlemen!
Frosh had a rough go of it -- falling to the young Knights with a score of 62-67. None of their defensive stuff was working well tonight, as St. Mary's seemed to score at will. The rivalry for our Frosh will last another 3 years, and it's gonna be a good one!
OK -- we wrap up regular season play next week with 2 HOME games! First up is Desert Mountain on Tuesday I'll see you in the stands with a new attitude! Let's finish strong, Broncos!!

January 30
Hello my fellow HART-sick Hoopsters! Well, we just ran out of LUCK! Hamilton High beats Brophy in OVERTIME 60-65. The GEIGER-counter was off-the-charts, giving the Brophy fans an ALEXI-fying experience watching our Broncos tie the game at the buzzer -- 53-53 --to go into overtime! Even though the scoreboard showed we came up short to finish the game -- in my humble o-PIDGE-on, this was one of the best games of the season, LIEB-ing no doubt that our boys are on the verge of a break-through, that will finish our season with all of our Seniors celebrating the experience of being a part of this special team of Broncos! Anthony Ray, Senior Writier for ArizonaPrep.com, may have said it best in his Jan. 26, 2008 column: "...the Broncos may just be the best-coached team in the state behind the leadership of Head Coach Tony Fuller, a recent Stanford assistant and former division-1 head coach. While the Broncos do not have a talent-filled roster, they compete in EVERY GAME by effort, defensive intensity and well-structured offensive sets that make them tough to defend." Thanks for a great game, Broncos!
JV handled the Brophy business tonight winning 52-36! The inside play from the big guys was commanding as we scored lots of points on second-effort shots. Great energy -- great game!
Brophy Frosh weren't able to handle the young Huskies tonight, and lost only their 3rd game of the year by a score of 43-49. Hamilton's defense in the 3rd quarter decided the game, when our Broncos were only able to score 1 point in the 3rd period! How weird is that???? Shake that off, guys, you're having an awesome season!
OK, yeah, we know. St. Mary's in OUR house. Friday. It is what it is. Take your seat. It's time for the show-down to begin.....we are RED-y, willing and able to BEAT THE KNIGHTS!!! It's a Hoopcoming RED-OUT -- I will see you in the stands. AMDG-baby!!!!

January 29
Varsity falls short 60-68 at Mountain Ridge tonight. Getting over the 'Mountains' we play is no easy task for our favorite herd of Broncos! Brophy had plenty of spunk in the first 15 minutes of play and lead by more than 8 points -- their manes were flowing as they ran the court in unison, stopping only to pop another shot in the hoop. And then, late in the 2nd period, from the distance came a couple of maverick zebras whose whistles severely disrupted a fun evening of play!! As our wild Broncos scattered, the Mt. Ridge Mt. Lions took over and we never made it to the top as a team. We did have a couple of players who did their best to settle the herd, but it was too late to get the W.
JV, on the other hand, ran the top of the Ridge' all night long! They led it all the way -- up 10 at half, and up 20 at the end of the game with a score of 57-37! Our JV Broncos were never afraid of the lurking Mt. Lions who tried all kinds of defense to stop our trail ride.......nope, the only problem JV had was keeping their concentration. Good win, guys!
If you can imagine it, the Frosh had an even easier time of it! They beat the Mt. Ridge Freshman 60-35! It was fun to watch our Broncos corner the Mt. Lions in the press, and as they took cover, we took over and scored a lot of points off the resulting turn-over's. Our frosh ponies were just having a frolic -- up the 'Ridge' and down the other side. Way to go!
OK, everyone, back to the bleachers -- we have some winning to do! Tomorrow night vs. Hamilton -- your Brophy Basketball fans are ready to cheer you on! Gooooo Broncos!!

January 25
Not to Knight! Brophy falls to the Knights 63-67. We were ready for a win against St. Mary's, but we will need to wait one more week for the rematch in our gym where the Brophy fans are sure to be respectful and Brophy pride will show up RED-dy for our version of the Super Bowl! Our Varsity boys played a heck of a game. This was a nail biter for most of the night. St. Marys got off to an 8-0 run but the Broncos got their footing and at the end of the First Quarter it was 14-11 in favor of the Knights. The Second quarter saw the score going back and forth. In the third quarter Brophy made their move and led 39-36 with three minutes to go in the quarter. Again - the Knights came back and tied it up 39-39 with 2:45 to go....The Broncos went back up 41-39 with 1:50 to go, then up again 43-39 then up 44-42 with 34.8 sec. left...the end of the third quarter had the Broncos leading 46-42 and the Bronco fans were on their feet cheering their team! The fourth quarter seemed to go on for an hour....the score went back and forth, back and forth - it was tied 54-54 with 3.37 minutes left- our varsity players were hitting the threes and making the crucial lay ups and tied it at 56-56 with 2.38 minutes to go....they went up 58-56 with 2.03 to go..the Knights tied it again at 58-58 with 1.53 to go - it stayed tied at 59-59 with 1.08 left in the game....shots going down at each basket put the Broncos behind 61-59 but with 15 sec. left on the clock Brophy tied it up 61-61 again !! When the buzzer signaled the end of the game the Broncos lost 67-63 with our player down injured and his team mate sheltering him on the floor from the crowd.......this one just got away but we have to be proud of our team and their performance on and off the floor.
The JV team had the same kind of night, coming up just short for a loss of 53-50. They led in a tight game, 15-10 after the first quarter, 28-27 at the half, then up by one 34-33 half way through the third quarter, up and down as the clock ticked away. The score was tied 48-48 with 2.47 seconds left in the game - then tied again 50-50 with 57 seconds left......but the knights pulled it out in the end.
In yet another game that went down to the wire the freshman knights remained undefeated and handed the baby broncos their second loss of the season 51-49. St. Marys jumped to an early 17-9 lead but the Freshman battled back to lead 24-22 at the half. Tied at the end of the third quarter, the lead was never more then 4 the rest of the game. Brophy led by 1 with little more then a minute to go. A St. Marys 3 point plan gave them the lead for good. Brophy came up short on their final possession - setting up a fabulous rematch next Friday at Brophy. We need our fans to show up with RED PRIDE and Bronco Spirit next Friday in our gym for the sweep we will be pursuing to bring home our version of the super bowl!

January 23
Movin' on UP! Varsity WINS 75-60!! Our Brophy Broncos took on Red Mountain tonight and the mighty Mountain Lions (ranked 12th) wondered what hit 'em! We saw it! It was UP tempo basketball -- running the floor -- pushing it UP -- inside-outside passing -- pressure defense -- great perimeter shooting! Our Broncos were a TEAM of wild horses tonight -- and the Red Mountain Lions were no match for our intensity. We sent 'em off on a looooong bus ride home to the east side of town. We really needed the 15 point win to help us in the Power Rankings --- we are "Movin' on up beating the East side -- we hope to get a piece of the pie"!!
JV had a really exciting game, too, but fell JUST short in the last seconds losing 61-57. This was another of the patented 'come from behind' runs that really make it exciting for the fans. We all believed our Broncos were going to pull it out, but the Red Mountain JV team had a really deadly 15-foot jump shot that we just couldn't stop. Lots of great things are happening for this team, tho, and we know the next time, it will be our Broncos winning at the buzzer! It's all good, JV!
OK -- yeah, that's right, St. Mary's on Friday night at their place. Be there or be square -- just don't be 'green'! GOOOOOOO Brophy!!
January 22
Broph broke Desert Mountain! Brophy broke Desert Mountain's 6-game winning streak and beat the Wolves 63-53 in an amazing basketball showdown! It was a sight to behold as our Broncos decided they had had enough of losing, and just FINISHED-off the DM Wolves with: a battery of 3's from our big guy, locked-down free throws, ball-swatting steals, and hustle with muscle to just break Desert Mountain in the 4th quarter! I'm telling you, the hills were alive with the sound of our Brophy fans hollering our approval for a game well-played and well-coached! Hoooooo, baby, this one felt good! Congratulations to every Varsity player -- you went for BROKE! We just upset the number 9 team in the Power Rankings, AND, Cathy Woods pointed out to me that we are 1-0 in REGION play! I'm liking it!
JV had a little rougher time of it, falling to the strong inside play of the Desert Mountain JV team by a score of 44-54. Our JV guys climbed the Mountain after being down by double digits at the half and tied the game 31-31 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Somehow, though, we lost our rhythm and couldn't score with multiple looks at the basket. Desert Mountain made their free throws and cast a shadow on our JV guys to come up with the 'W' in the end. Climb back on your Broncos, gentlemen, we see another Mountain tomorrow night -- and it's OUR color, RED!!
The Brophy Freshman beat Desert Mountain Frosh in a 'landslide' tonight 61-38!! Heads are turning when our Freshman team enters a gym -- they have only lost one game, and they just get better every time they take the floor. You stood on the Mountain Top tonight, guys -- keep setting new heights!
We will see you all tomorrow night in the Robson Gym as we take on Red Mountain. Red Mtn is also ranked above us (12th), but after tonight, I believe our Broncos can prevail on ANY COURT, at ANY HOOP, ANYTIME! Go Broncos!

January 17
The Thunder put us Under! The Desert Vista Thunder came rumbling from behind and overtook our Varsity with a final score of 35-49! The Broncos were 'lightning' tough through 3 quarters leading by 3 going into the 4th, including a 'zing' 3-pointer to finish the half! Brophy showed great team defense, and held Desert Vista to only 4 points in the 3rd. I mean, the great Brophy Fans were all ready to Roll-the-Thunder -- it was looking so good! Then, our offense shut down, and then, Boom! Boom! Boom! we were down by 6 and never regained control. Desert Vista is ranked #2 in 5AI, so that sure would have been a great win -- but we know we can play with 'em!
Here's the good news -- our JV AND Freshman teams BOTH won handily!! In fact, the Desert Vista JV team was 10-1 before our Broncos 'cracked' the JV Thunder with a score of 55-37! Great inside post play and drives to the bucket made all the difference! Great win JV!
Our Frosh won with a great run in the 3rd -- like 8 points in 2 minutes!! That 'crashed' the Frosh Thunder and they had trouble scoring behind some amazing second-half defense! Way to shut 'em down and bring home the W! Our talented Freshman team ALSO won the night before, beating Shepard Jr. High in OverTime!! I think our youngest Broncos have only 1 loss the whole season! How 'bout that??? Keep it going guys!
Next week we have 3 games! Hope to see many of you on Tuesday at Desert Mountain. 12575 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale, 85259. (Northeast of Shea and 124th St.) Brophy -- you've earned a WIN! Let's do it!

January 11
The Horizon Huskies were ready for a fight tonight! Our Frosh prevailed, but both JV and Varsity had victories snatched by the jaws of rabid Huskies in the 4th quarter. The Bronocs are the ones howling tonight!
Freshman win 62-45! It all started out well! Our Freshman team got out to a great lead, and were up to the challenge of some great shooting by the Huskies as the Frosh Bronocs closed the game nicely winning 62-45! Well done, men!
JV loses 53-55. JV had an even match-up, playing Horizon's JV team very close. The fans saw a new group of starters who ended the first half 31-28 in favor of the Broncos! Then, those Huskies just kinda' crept up on our team at the last seconds and bit into the lead 53-54 with only 4.5 seconds left. Our Broncos just couldn't shake the growling dogs and lost by a snarl, 53-55. It looked good all the way, guys -- next time we'll remember to keep those Huskys on a leash!
Varsity loses 46-51.....and this one hurts! Our Broncos had those dogs in a kennel for 3 quarters of play -- leading the game the whole way. Brophy looked sharp, and was scoring well. Then, to start the 4th quarter, the PA system played "Who let the dogs out" and we were in trouble from there! Three 3-pointers in a row and with 6:07 left in the game, the Husky's took the lead in a genuine dog attack! We fought for every point, but didn't have an answer for their bark that ALSO had a bite! Our Broncos fell 46-51 -- did someone say "mush"?????
Let's get back on track with our next game vs. Desert Vista, Thursday Jan. 17th. Games are at Brophy.
We believe in our Bronocs! Let's go Brophy!!!
January 8
All the King's horses, and all the Kofa men couldn't put their game back together again!
Brophy Varsity wins 51-41! The KOFA Kings had a 6'10" horse to ride the paint, and lots of men at the perimeter that were playing our Brophy Broncos in an all-out war! KOFA led the whole game until late in the 3rd quarter when Brophy kept the energy level and defensive pressure set on high, and the Kings couldn't keep up with our fuel-injected Broncos!! By mid 4th quarter, Kofa's 'humpty-dumpty' finally had a great fall, and your Brophy Bronocs finished strong to overthrow the Kings! Who rules Yuma now???
JV wins 52-25! JV's game was never in question! It was total Brophy domination in the 'King'-dom, with lots of fast-break points on the transition. Great tempo, with well-conditioned Broncos just out-powering Kofa, especially after the half. All the JV players saw plenty of action, and they look like a really strong team going forward with 2 wins under their belt to start the new year!
Frosh had a surprise 'bye', but were good sports about the fact that no Kofa Freshman showed up at 4:00. Must've been the basketball 'court' jester's idea of a joke!
Next action is vs. Horizon this Friday, Jan. 11th AT Horizon High School. Address: 5601 E. Greenway, 85254. I've heard there is a special magic show at half-time ... let's hope our Broncos have their magic show during the game! Abra-ka-dabra.....turn this into a win! Go Broncos!
January 7
SHOOT!
Corona del Sol DID shoot well, and, "shoot", we didn't!!
Our Frosh finally met their match and had their first defeat of the season --- but only losing by 3! Final score was 32-35 Our youngest Broncos looked strong in the first half and lead several times in the game. But with 2 minutes left to play, those Aztec shooters buried their shots, and buried the Freshman's hope for an undefeated season. It's time to start the next streak tomorrow night!
Well, speaking of shooting -- there is nothing like a 'Buzzer Beater' for the WIN to lift the spirits of the home team crowd! WOW, JV -- nice game! Brophy played Corona tight the whole night. The 4th quarter started with the score 40 -41 in favor of the Aztecs, and it was a battle 'til the very last seconds when with 7 seconds left, JV made their move -- took a shot with 2 seconds left -- didn't go in -- but the PUT-BACK was still bouncing around the rim when the horn sounded, and then, SWOOSH! Nice SHOT for the win. 52 -50 --way to make us proud JV!
If you recall, the Varsity Corona del Sol team placed 2nd in the McClintock Holiday 'Shoot'-Out, while Brophy finished 3rd. It was the same result tonight, with the Aztecs finishing just ahead of our Broncos with a score of 47-63. If you watched the men in orange tonight, "orange-you" in awe of the flawless free throw shooting of those Aztecs!? They went to the line plenty of times, and I don't think they missed but 2 shots all night! Our Broncos played their hearts out and only trailed by 5 at the half. But, the lid went on the basket in the 3rd and we only scored 4 points all quarter! Well, the Corona del Sol (crown of the sun) has now 'set', and we are heading west to take on the Kofa Kings tomorrow night -- we couldn't 'crown' the Aztecs, but let's 'Crown the Kings'!! Good luck in Yuma!
