College Counseling Timeline

  • August

    • By this point, students should have taken at least 1 SAT and/or 1 ACT
    • The Senior Questionnaire in Naviance should be complete and updated
    • If applying to out-of-state institutions, students should create an account for the Common Application at www.commonapp.org. This is a universal application form accepted by hundreds of colleges and universities
    • Download the College Application Tracker in the Documents Library in Naviance to stay organized
  • September

    • September 1: Registration deadline for October 1 SAT. Students who need SAT Subject Tests for admission should register for the October 1 or the November 5 SAT
    • September 7:  Barrett Honors College Application is available
    • September 10: ACT
    • September 13: Senior Parent Coffee Chat - 7:45 a.m., Great Hall
    • September 16: Registration deadline for October 22 ACT
    • September 28: College Financial Aid Night 6:30 p.m., Great Hall
    • Students should be completing in-state applications (available online now!)
    • Students should ask teachers for letters of recommendation
    • Students continue to meet with college representatives at Brophy.  The visit schedule is listed in Naviance
    • Attend Wednesday Workshops after school in B105 for drop-in help with applications and essays
  • October

    • October 1:  Recommendation Letter Request Deadline for Early Action Applications
    • October 1:  FAFSA available at https://fafsa.ed.gov/ (required by all colleges if applying for financial aid) and CSS/Financial Aid Profile available at www.css.collegeboard.org (Required by some colleges)
    • October 1: SAT @ Brophy
    • October 7:  Registration deadline for the November 5 SAT
    • October 18: University of Arizona Wilcat Promise One Deadline (to receive decision by November 8)
    • October 19: Arizona college visits during National Testing Day; details forthcoming
    • October 22: ACT
    • October 24: Brophy/Xavier College Fair at Xavier, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
    • Revise, revise, revise that college essay and pay careful attention to Early Action/Decision Supplements
    • Attend Wednesday Workshops after school in B105 for drop-in help with applications and essays
  • November

    • Be aware of November financial aid deadlines for the CSS/Financial Aid Profile, if required
    • November 1: Last day to request a teacher recommendation for all college applications
    • November 1: Standard deadline for Early Action/Decision applications; individual schools may vary
    • November 1: Application filing opens for University of California/Cal State schools (Due 11/30)
    • November 1: VIP Admission Deadline to ASU
    • November 3: Registration deadline for the December 3 SAT
    • November 4: Registration deadline for the December 10 ACT
    • November 5: SAT @ Brophy
    • November 8: University of Arizona Wildcat Promise Two deadline
    • November 30: University of California or California State University application deadline
    • Finalize applications for colleges with December and January deadlines
    • Attend Wednesday Workshops after school in B105 for drop-in help with applications and essays
  • December

    • December 3: SAT @ Brophy
    • December 10: ACT
    • December 14: Last day to request transcripts until after the holiday
    • Put finishing touches on any remaining applications: counselors are not reading essays during break!
    • Use a portion of your break to identify and apply for outside scholarships
  • January

    • Finalize any outstanding Regular Action applications
  • February

    • February 1: ASU Priority deadline for financial aid/scholarship consideration
    • Meet financial aid deadlines for FAFSA/CSS Profile and any other institutional forms. February 15 is a popular deadline, but some schools are as early as February 1 or as late as March 1
  • March

    • Update your Naviance acount with college decisions: admit, waitlist, denied
    • March 29: Seniors and Parents - Navigating the Final Weeks, 6:30 p.m., Great Hall
  • April

    • Compare admission decisions and financial aid packages (if applicable)
  • May

    • May 1: Enrollment deadline!
    • Be sure to indicate which college you are attending in Naviance (it is in the "Colleges I'm Applying To" section), so that our records are accurate for the Graduation Bulletin
