Brophy Competes in Quiz Bowl All Star TournamentFive Brophy students represented Arizona at the first Quiz Bowl All Star Tournament at Vanderbilt University. The questions were extremely difficult (collegiate level) and most states have hundreds if not thousands of students from which to select the top five players so the Brophy students were competing against students with years of experience.
Brophy Track to Compete in 1st High School National ChampionshipBrophy has been selected as one of the 12 high school boys track teams in the United States to compete on Friday July 2 in Eugene, Oregon for the National Championship.
Two Brophy Students awarded internships through the Helios Scholars Program at TGenJohn Medici ’12 and Kyle Roman ’11 are two of only 44 interns selected for this very competitive summer program at TGen. Nearly 400 high school and college students from around Arizona applied for this prestigious program. These gentlemen will have a great experience during their two month internship this summer.
Brophy Senior Named Semifinalist in the 2010 U. S. Presidential Scholars CompetitionKeifer Forseth, a member of Brophy’s Class of 2010, has been named a semifinalist in the 2010 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. He was selected as one of approximately 560 semifinalists to advance to the final round of competition.
Brophy Publications Take Home Prestigious AwardsAt the National Scholastic Press Association’s convention in Portland,
Brophy Literary & Arts Magazine, aka
BLAM, won 2
nd place in the country in the Best of Show competition for literary magazines.
Michael Johnson ’09 and Andrew Opila ’09, they were last year’s editors. This year’s editors are Michael Nostestine, Jeramy Moschonas, and Beau Peterlin.
National Latin ExamDuring the second week of March, Brophy and Xavier Latin students participated in the annual National Latin Exam. Of the 127 students who took this test this year, 65 received awards. Listed below are the Brophy winners. Congratulations to all of our classical scholars and their teachers.
International Thespian Society, the Honor Division of the Xavier/Brophy Drama Club.There are three categories of awards:
1. Induction into the International Thespian Society.
2. Graduating Seniors who are members of the International Thespian Society.
3. Highest honors in the International Thespian Society (given to graduating seniors only.)
Varsity BaseballCongratulations to the Varsity Baseball Team for their 3
rd Place finish in the Horizon Big League Dugout National Invitational Tournament
. All Tournament Honors went to Joe Maggi, Kevin Kennedy, and A.J. Steimel for their performances during the four day/five game tournament.

Brophy Quiz Bowl TeamOn Saturday, April 3, 2010, the Brophy Quiz Bowl teams went to the first collegiate sponsored Quiz Bowl championship contest at ASU. They had a stellar performance and finished first, second and fourth. The top three individual champions were Danny Wilson, Alex Theisen and Danny Hintze.
Knowledge MastersThe Brophy Knowledge Masters Team took first in state again and overall is 18th out of 622 teams. Congratulations to the men of Brophy’s spring 2010 Knowledge Masters Team who participated in the international competition against teams from every state and foreign countries including China, Korea, Serbia, and Singapore.
Brophy/Xavier Speech and DebateThe Brophy/ Xavier Speech and Debate Team won seven out of the sixteen events at the state tournament on March 19-20. We also had ten other state finalists. A finalist is defined as one who places in the top six in the state in their event. Their work culminated in taking 2
nd place overall, right behind Desert Vista. Congratulations to all!
Mock Trial earns first place in regional tournamentThe Brophy Mock Trial team competed in the Regional Mock Trial Tournament on March 6.
Brophy earned First Place in the entire Phoenix area, which also means they earned a nifty gold and wooden plaque in the shape of Arizona, as well as the thrill and honor of continuing our competition.
Speech and DebateBrophy hosted the National Qualifier last weekend. Hosting the tournament definitely gave Brophy the competitive edge! As a team, we won the tournament for the second time in three years. Individual results are below.
