Letter from the Principal

Dear Brophy Community,

For the next two weeks our community will engage in our annual Summit on Human Dignity. This year’s theme, "The Opportunity Gap" will address a wide variety of issues related to income and economic inequality.  I strongly encourage you, if you haven’t already done so, to spend some time on this year’s summit website to learn about all that is in store.  There is also more information provided later in this e-News.

An extraordinary amount of time and energy has gone into the planning of this event.  I am grateful for the commitment and energy of both the faculty and student planning teams who have designed what promises to be an exceptional experience for our community.   A series of whole-school assemblies, a film festival, mini-immersion experiences, and lunch-time presentations have been planned for the next two weeks in order to provide all of us a wide range of perspectives on this very important topic.

I’d also like to call special attention to the Workshop Day scheduled for next Wednesday, March 6th.  On this day, normal classes will not meet but instead students will attend three separate workshop sessions. They’ll select the three that interest them from over thirty different available choices.  The quality and breadth of workshop options is worth reviewing on this portion of the Summit webpage

In so many ways, this Summit represents the depth and breadth of the Jesuit education we seek to provide at Brophy.  Each year, the speakers we invite for the Summit remark that it is rare for universities, let alone high schools, to host events of this scope and magnitude. This year’s Summit promises to present a similar opportunity for our entire community.  Again, I hope in the coming week you’ll spend some time on the Summit website and talk with your son about all the different assemblies and activities that are planned.

Peace,

Bob Ryan
Principal
