Program Policies

I. GENERAL

1.        All rules of the student handbook apply throughout the season.

2.        Behavior must conform to the highest standards expected of a Brophy Student-Athlete at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, showing respect to other players and coaches, not using profanity at practice or during matches, leaving areas / vehicles we use in better shape than we found them. You are representing yourselves, but also your school, your coaching staff, and your families. Any behavior that goes against this standard will be dealt with severely.

3.        Any conduct deemed detrimental to the team will result in that player being removed from the team activity, for example, the match or practice, that day.

II. ALCOHOL AND DRUG POLICY

1.        Use of alcohol or drugs in any season by any member of a Brophy athletic team will result in a hearing with the Dean of Students, the Athletic Director and/or the Head Coach.  It will be the coach's recommendation at that time that the athlete be suspended from participating in the volleyball program for at least one month. At this time, the athlete may be required to enter the school's substance abuse program. The Dean monitors this program. All discipline of these offenses will be handled by members of the school administration. A second offense may result in dismissal from school.

2.        This policy covers the use of alcohol, controlled substances, and tobacco by any member of the team.

3.        The Dean and the Athletic Director will handle all appeals.

III. ATTENDANCE POLICY

1.        All players are required to be at every practice, meeting, and match at the assigned time. The head coach must be notified of all pending absences. A first unexcused absence will result in a 1 game suspension. Offenses 2 & 3 result in a match suspension for each offense. If there are 3 or more unexcused absences, the player may be dismissed from the program. Missing practice or any other team activity for detention will count as an unexcused absence.

2.        All players are required to be at practice and matches at the designated time. Every time a player is late, the player will condition for 3 times the number of minutes late. If a player is repeatedly late, he will sit one game. The decision on "repeatedly" will be up to the coaching staff.

IV. EQUIPMENT POLICY

1.        All players are responsible for their uniforms until they are turned in to the coach. If the uniform is lost or damaged while in the care of the athlete, the athlete will be responsible for the replacement of their uniform or a team set of no individual replacements can be found.

2.        All team members will assist in setting up the equipment and taking down of equipment. This includes verifying all of the balls are stored and the equipment room is in order.

V. TRANSPORTATION POLICY

1.        All players must travel in the team busses to the matches unless prior permission is given by the Coach Oldani and a parent note is received. Following matches, players are allowed to leave with parents so long as the coach has a note signed by the player's parent.

VI. MATCHES

1.        Playing time will be determined by the evaluation of the coaching staff based on skill level, work ethic, and attitude. It is the goal of the volleyball program to put the best possible team on the floor each night. Parents please do not contact any coach regarding playing time for your son. It is our expectation that the athlete, not the parent, has a discussion with the coaches regarding what he needs to do to garner more playing time. Obviously if there are issues outside of playing time that you need to talk to the coaches about, we are certainly encourage you to schedule an appointment with us.

2.        Players must be prepared to warm-up when the coach gives the instruction to do so.  For JV, this time will be set by the Head Coach. For the varsity team, this will come at the beginning of the 2nd game of the JV match. Players must be in the gym by 4:15, whether the game is home or away.

3.        Players must keep the coaching staff up to date regarding injury status. We must know when you're injured to keep you from aggravating the injury.

4.     No player may leave a match until released directly by the head coach. Plan on having a 10-minute meeting following each game. JV's should make every attempt to stay for the first game of the varsity match
