Brophy Peru Trip 2009

Greeting to all family, friends, colleagues, & teachers,

On Monday evening we will depart for our three week journey throughout Peru.  The group of seven students includes Jimmy Wentworth, Ben Jackson, Roger Bond-Choquette, Adam Triplett, Blake Senn, Joe DeWulf and Peter Johnson.  The faculty member accompanying them are Mr. Lloyd Daggett, Deacon Joe Stickney, & Mr. JP Jarczyk.  This is our second time to Peru for an immersion trip after last year's successful trip.

This trip will be full of learning about the people of Peru, being challenged by our work and by the reality in which others live, and growing to be better men for others.  Through working with a family who lost their home in an earthquake in August of 2007, we will see how so many in this world face years of rebuilding after a natural disaster strikes.  Through living with a host family in Tacna, we will see how regular families live in the developing world and what hopes, dreams, and interests other Jesuit high school students have.  Through our sightseeing in the historic downtown of Lima, the Islas Ballestas, Paracas National Park, the city of Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, we will see what a beautiful and diverse world in which we live.

We would like to share our experiences not only with our families and the Brophy community but also with others who will find our stories and pictures of interest.  Please let others know about our blog.  Your prayers and comments will always be appreciated.

Most evenings we hope to have a different student or faculty member post his thoughts about the experiences of the day.  As often as possible, we will also post pictures.

¡Cuídense todos!  Our next entry should be Tuesday night from Lima.

Peace,
JP Jarczyk
