Silver - Some Notes (April 29th)

|

Hi all! Here are some notes for this week...

1)       Great job by Celina and Taryn at the Swim Meet this past weekend in Mission Viejo! 5 of their 7 swims were best times ever! This is great considering it is still April. This really shows what we had hoped to accomplish this summer by not taking a long break in April....faster long course swimming earlier in the season. I am expecting big things by everyone else at either the Gauchos Meet or the Cactus Classic.

3)       BEST Awards Banquet is this Sunday. You need to purchase tickets in advance. Please see Sandy in the office to do this. Tickets will not be available at the door.

4)       Gauchos Meet (for those not swimming Cactus Classic) is May 17th and 18th. I need your participation form turned in by tomorrow if you plan on swimming in that meet. I will not enter swimmers without that form.

Silver - Some Notes (April 23rd)

|

Hi all! Here are some notes for this week...

1)       BEST Intrasquad Meet is Saturday, May 3rd. The Senior Groups will be hosting a pancake breakfast that morning. Senior Group parents will need to help in organizing this event. The Age Group parents will handle this for our Fall Meet and parties. If you can help, please let Sandy know.

2)       BEST Awards Banquet is Sunday, May 4th. You must purchase tickets in advance for this. Please stop into the office to do this. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Please plan on attending.

3)       Gauchos Meet (May 17th -18th)...please turn in the participation form if you are attending. This will be a good chance for swimmers not competing at Cactus Classic to race in May. The whole point of us taking a break at Christmas and not one in April was to have our swimmers going fast earlier in the long course season. Even though there is no warm-down pool at this meet, swimmers should still plan on going so they can learn to deal with certain situations. They are not going to have the ideal racing conditions all the time and they need to learn how to adjust. The participation form is due back to me by April 30th.

4)       Cactus Classic Meet (May 23rd - 26th)...those entries have been posted on the bulletin board. We will make adjustments to entries after the Intrasquad meet.

5)       Summer practice schedule will begin Tuesday, May 27th.

6)       Silver Manresa Trip will be June 13th - 15th. More information to come.

That is all for right now.

Thanks

Coach Kevin

3)       BEST Intrasquad Meet is Saturday, May 3rd. Info on the time of the pancake breakfast, team pictures and the meet is in each file folder. I will post the swimmers entries later this week. If you are unable to attend, please let me know ASAP.

4)       BEST Banquet is Sunday, May 4th. Information can be found on the BEST blog.

5)       Entries are already posted for the Cactus Classic Meet on Memorial day weekend. There will be a meet on May 17th and 18th for those not attending the Cactus Classic. The meet is host by Gauchos in Glendale. If you are unable to attend, please let me know. I will post entries early next week.

6)       Please make sure swimmers have all necessary equipment for practice. It also would not hurt to remark their names on all equipment. They need kickboard, fins, pullbuoy, paddles, snorkel and 2 tennis balls.

Thank you!

Blue - Some Notes

|

Greetings and Welcome to the 2008 Long Course Season!! I just want all of you to know how excited I am to be working with your families.

We started off the new season with a detailed team meeting on Monday evening. I tried to cover anything and everything I could think of. The bottom line of the meeting was to not only communicate with them, but also "set the tone for a positive team training environment!" There is no room for any negativity! No one can excel to his or her potential if the negative has room to grow.

April/May Practice Schedule. As I stated in the e-mail sent out earlier this evening:
Mondays=6-7:45p.m. (Swim only)
Tue/Thu=5:30-7:45p.m. (Dryland & Swim)
Wednesdays=5-7:00p.m. (Swim only) THIS IS A CHANGE!! Start on Wed., April 16th.
Fridays=5:30-7:30p.m. (Swim only)
Saturdays=9-11:30a.m. (Dryland first & then Swim)

May Swim Meets. Our first long-course meets will happen in May:
*BEST Team Long Course Intrasquad Meet=Saturday, May 3rd. (Time line info to follow next week)
*Glendale Gauchos Swim Meet=Saturday, may 17th-Sunday, May 18th. If you do not qualify for the Cactus Classic Meet, you will be entered in the Gauchos Meet.
*Cactus Classic Swim Meet (Prelims/Finals)=Friday, may 23rd-Monday, May 26th. THE BLUE ENTRIES ARE POSTED ON THE AGE GROUP BULLETIN BOARD!! If you cannot attend, please let Coach Jennifer know ASAP!! I have entered EVERYONE who has qualifying times for this meet! I will also put the meet information in everyone's mailbox next week.

Blue Practice Equipment. All Blue Members need the following equipment on hand EACH and EVERY day of practice...starting next week:
Mesh bag for equipment
Water bottle
Kickboard
Buoy
Strokemaker Hand Paddles (Most everyone in this group should use the Green Size 1 paddles)
Snorkel
Fins (Blue & Orange Speedo ones are the preferred ones)
Positive Attitude!! :)

Blue Communication. Coach Jennifer feels regular communication with the families is VITAL!! I will use the following three modes of communication weekly:
Mailboxes for schedules; meet info
Weekly parent e-mails
Blog postings each week-either Wednesday afternoon or after Wednesday practices

The mode of communication I would first recommend to get in touch with me, is through e-mail. My e-mail address is jgibson@brophyprep.org.

Summer School Attendance. Parents, please send me your swimmer's summer school information/details ASAP either by e-mail or a written copy with your swimmer to practice. This will help me with practice attendance planning for the summer schedule!

I am looking forward to a fun and fast season of swimming with your children! If there is anything I can do to make the Blue Group a better experience for your swimmer, please do not hesitate to let me know! I want to work with everyone!

Please stay posted for our upcoming Blue Parent Meeting. This will happen in late April.
Thank you for your support of BEST and of your children!
-Coach Jennifer

There will be no practice on Saturday, April 12th for Blue, Red, White, Rising Stars & Starfish. Enjoy your Saturday!

BEST Coaching Changes

Dear BEST Families,

As some of you have heard, we are undergoing some coaching changes.
Coach Liz Hastings has decided to return to Ohio. Her last day will be Friday, April 4. We greatly appreciate all she has done for the Bronze group, Blue group and BEST.
We are taking this opportunity to do a little reorganization. Head Age Group Coach Jennifer Gibson will be taking over the Blue group while continuing with Starfish and Rising Stars (along with Coach Maureen Rankin). Coach Kevin Rytel will be taking over the Red group along with his Silver group.
I am very excited to tell you that we have hired Coach Mark Rankin to lead the Bronze group. With his expertise, enthusiasm & passion the Bronze group will rise to a new level.
We are very close to finalizing plans to hire a new coach for the White group. We have a local person (grade school teacher) who has coached in California and is very experienced & talented. We should know in a day or two.
We, Brophy East Swim Team, have long prided ourselves in maintaining the highest standards in our coaching staff for our athletes and families. I feel these moves will strengthen us, help us to grow and improve our competitive excellence.
I personally assure you that we will continue to look for ways to improve.
As always, I am proud to be associated with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Dave Gibson, Head Coach

BEST: Coach Liz Hastings Leaving for Ohio

Please join us on Friday, April 4th at 6 p.m. to wish Coach Liz Hasting our best as she leaves us to return to her family and former swim team in Ohio. We appreciate the expertise, dedication and enthusiasm that she brought to us, and wish her well in continuing her coaching career and life. You have earned our respect and made many friends here at BEST. Thank you! We will miss you Coach Liz!
