Red - Some Notes (December 30th)

|

Hi all! Here are some notes for this week...

1)       I hope everyone enjoyed their break and had a great holiday season. Thank you to all the swimmers and parents for their holiday gifts and cards....it was greatly appreciated. I enjoyed going back home to see my family in warm, sunny Ohio (-16 degrees with the wind chill)..ha.ha. Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year!

2)       There is one schedule change for this week...Friday, January 2nd - Practice will be from 9:30 - 11:15am. If you cannot make that time, you may come in at 5:00 and swim with the White group until 6:30 that evening.

3)       There is no practice this Wednesday or Thursday (New Year's Eve and New Year's Day).

4)       Red Holiday Party will be this Saturday (January 3rd) from 6:30-8:30pm. The group will go ice skating and have pizza at the Altell Ice Den in North Scottsdale. Mrs. Mann and Mrs. Downing will be organizing this. They will have a flyer with more info out shortly. We will also need a couple more parents to help chaperone this. If you are able to, please let either parent know.

5)       Indianapolis entries will be posted and in the file folders tonight. Swimmers needed to have at least 4 cuts in order to attend. I am working on the itinerary for the trip and will have that out next week. We will have a parent/swimmer meeting for all those attending on Monday, January 12th at 6:00pm.

That is all for right now.

Thanks!

Coach Kevin

Red - Some Notes (December 10th)

|

Hi all! Here are some notes for this week...

1)       Great job by the swimmers at the Holiday Fest Swim Meet! There were lots of great swims throughout the entire weekend. Special notice is given to the following..

·         High Point Award Winner - Phillip Fromm (3rd place 10 & under boys)

·         Team Records - Ethan Wojciechowski (10 & Under 100 Freestyle), 10 & U 200 Medley Relay (Cameron, Ryan, Phillip, Jack), 10 & U 200 Free Relay (Ethan, Phillip, Cameron, Jack), 10 & U 400 Free Relay (Ryan, Phillip, Ethan, Jack)

2)       Our next big meet is Indianapolis in January. We need to make sure swimmers are attending as many practices as possible over the next month. Swimmers will have off December 21st - December 28th for the Holiday Season. Age Group swimmers will be okay taking that Holiday Week off. We did last year and had a great Chicago Meet. Please do not ask to have the swimmers come in during the break and swim. Let them have this time off to stay or get healthy and enjoy the Holidays.

3)       The Gauchos Meet is this Saturday and Sunday in Glendale. Entries were put in the file folders and emailed last week. There is no Red practice this Saturday due to the meet.

4)       Holiday Food Drive items are due by this Monday in the classroom at the pool. Each swimmer was assigned at least one item to donate to help make a brighter Holiday season for a needy family in the area. The donation list was put in each file folder.  If you would like to donate any of the other listed items, that would be great! Thanks for your help with this great project!

5)       Just a quick reminder about the following items for swim meets...

·         Coaches will pick the events to enter the swimmer. Please do not email events to a coach that you think they should be swimming.

·         Swimmers should not being wearing fastskins in a meet unless the coach says to. They should not be worn for prelim swims either..just finals. This is not just me making up a policy, this is the BEST team policy for age group swimmers.

·         Swimmers need to come see a coach before and after their races (after they warm-down). I was very disappointed in the 10 & under boys this past weekend with coming to see me after their races.

·         If you have a problem at a meet with a time that is posted for your swimmer or a DQ...please tell a coach and then they will take care of it. Parents should not be approaching meet workers or officials to deal with these problems. Let the coaches handle it.

That is all for right now. Thank you to the swimmers and the parents for a great weekend of swimming!

Coach Kevin

Silver - Some Notes (December 10th)

|

Hi all! Here are some notes for this week...

1)       Great job by the swimmers at the Holiday Fest Swim Meet! There were lots of great swims throughout the entire weekend. Special notice is given to the following..

·         High Point Award Winners - Celina (2nd 13-14 Girls), Talie (3rd 13-14 Girls), and Walter (3rd 13-14 Boys).

·         Team Records - 13-14 Girls 200 Free Relay (Celina, Carly, Haley and Talie)

·         Team and State Records - Walter, Chris, Louis and Noah - 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay.

2)       Our next big meet is Indianapolis in January. We need to make sure swimmers are attending as many practices as possible over the next month. Swimmers will have off December 25th - December 28th for the Holiday Season. I know swimmers have finals going on, but they should try to come for at least 90 minutes of practice and then leave early to go study. Missing too many practices and then taking time off for the holidays could lead to a disappointing Indy meet.

3)       Silver Holiday Party this Saturday at the Johnson House. Practice this Saturday is from 8:00-10:00am. (No Dryland)

4)       Holiday Food Drive items are due by this Monday in the classroom at the pool. Each swimmer was assigned at least one item to donate to help make a brighter Holiday season for a needy family in the area. Most of the swimmers in Silver have to get a $5 grocery gift card. If you would like to just bring $5 in, then we can go buy one big gift card for the family and make it easier. If you would like to donate any of the other listed items, that would be great! Thanks for your help with this great project!

5)       Just a quick note for the swimmers and parents about the dynamics of the Silver Group. I have had a couple of swimmers move out of Silver down to Bronze due to some of the personal drama going on with certain people in the group. I should not have let these people move down for that reason only. I think the swimmers should learn how to deal with the situation and we as a group can try to make it better for everyone. There are going to be far greater problems in life down the line and you cannot just run away from them and think it will be all better. Also, just because your friends are in one group, does not mean you should move and sacrifice your swimming just to be with them. I want to make sure every swimmer has the best training environment possible. Every group is going to have drama from one time to another. We need to find a way to make Silver the strongest group possible for all those in it. We are very lucky to have a great group of talented swimmers in Silver. Let's try to make each other stronger and not bring people down.

That is all for right now. Thank you to the swimmers and the parents for a great weekend of swimming!

Coach Kevin
