Hola a Todos (Families, Friends, the entire Brophy community),

Welcome to the Spanish Immersion: Argentina blog.  This year Brophy began its first-ever student exchange with Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepción.  Five students from Santa Fe, Argentina traveled to Phoenix to live with Brophy host families and attend Brophy classes and functions during the month of February.  You can view photos of part one of the exchange at our Shutterfly page.

Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepción, founded 1610.

On Saturday, May 30, ten students will travel with Sra. Steffens and me to Santa Fe, Argentina for part two of this inaugural exchange program.  Santa Fe is approximately 400km north of Buenos Aires, the capital.  Four seniors (Andrew Anderson, Brandon Blair, Jordan Brewer, Karl Heiland), five juniors (John Christ, Max Gaynor, Zach Jesberger, Bryce Welborn, Tommy Williams) and one sophomore (Jake Steffens) will take courses at Colegio Inmaculada, live with host families, and visit points of interest in Argentina through the end of June.  In addition, we will be spending one full day each week in service with the poor.  (In solidarity we offer our thoughts and prayers to our Brophy brothers on the El Salvador immersion trip.)

During the Spanish Immersion: Argentina program, students will earn credits in Spanish language and Humanities as part of their coursework, studying and experiencing Argentinean culture.  They will post reflections to this blog on the language, spirituality, food, music, film/TV, and history of this city and this country.

We look forward to sending missives back home.  Feel free to leave a "Comment" on student blog posts.

Thanks!

Mr. John Damaso '97 and Sra. Catharine Steffens
