There are 9 counselors doing the college counseling
and administration of college services at Brophy Prep. They work with students
and their parents during the college selection and application process. All
of their efforts are coordinated by the College Counseling coordinator who
acts as the school's main point of contact to the universities and colleges
with which we interact.
Brophy Prep is a member of the National Association of Admissions Counselors,
The College Board, The Jesuit High School College Counselors Association and
other professional and educational organizations related to the college admissions
process. The school is regularly represented at regional and national meetings
of these organizations.
Brophy Prep has many resources for students and parents. Among them are view
books and catalogs from hundreds of colleges, videos from wide variety of colleges
(and a VCR with monitor to view them), guidebooks and specialty books and computer
programs designed to help in the college selection process.
Each fall, Brophy Prep and Xavier host more than 130 representatives from
colleges around the country. The event occurs each year in October, generally
the third Monday of the month. Additionally many colleges or groups of colleges
hold area wide receptions either at Brophy or at hotels or other facilities
all over the Phoenix area. Many colleges conduct interviews of applicants at
Brophy especially during the first semester of each school year. School sponsored
college tours allow students to visit several colleges in one trip, with each
trip lasting several days.
During the first semester each year all Juniors and Seniors are offered a
college planning workshop to look at the many facets of applying to college.
In the course of each Junior's second semester, his college selection process
gains momentum. In mid-January, a program is held on campus to discuss many
of the facets of the college selection process with students and parents.
Through the college counselors at Brophy Prep, students are offered as much
assistance as they need, but are also encouraged to recognize their responsibility
in selecting the college they will eventually attend. There is opportunity
for applications and essays to be reviewed and communications with colleges
about the status of applications is on going.
We assume that nearly all Brophy Prep students plan to continue their studies
in college. Brophy students are therefore encouraged to select a college where
they will be happy, academically challenged and successful.
