8th Grade Information Socials

8th grade Information Socials are meetings scheduled around the valley to give families information about Brophy College Preparatory and the admissions process. Director of Admissions, Mike Ward, will give a short presentation about Brophy College Preparatory and current students will be available to answer any questions that you may have.  To see the locations, dates and times of these meetings, please check out the 8th grade Information Social flyer.

Open House

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, Brophy will hold an Open House for anyone interested in learning more about the school and the admissions process. Brophy students offer guided tours of the campus and facilities. There are opportunities to meet and ask questions of current Brophy students, teachers, coaches and administrators. The last tour will be scheduled for 3:00 PM., and reservations are not required.

Entrance Examination

  • The entrance examination may be taken on either Saturday, January 8, 2011, or Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 8:00 AM. until noon.
  • The applicant should arrive at Brophy by 7:30 AM. for registration in Brophy Hall.
  • The Application for Admission and fee are due three days prior to the chosen test date.
  • We will provide all materials for the test, as well as midmorning snacks and drinks.  No calculators, drinks, or food may be brought to the test site.
  • Although the applicant may take the entrance exam on either scheduled date, we recommend that he plan to come on the first Saturday (January 8), to ensure a make-up opportunity in the event of an emergency or illness.
  • There is no need to notify us which Saturday the applicant will take the exam; receipt of the $75 fee automatically qualifies the applicant to take the exam on either date.
  • There will be no further notification as to exam dates and times, nor is it necessary to call and confirm.
  • Although we accept results from entrance exams taken at other Catholic high schools, those results do not always arrive at Brophy in time for consideration by the Admissions Committee.
  • Applicants who do not take the Entrance Exam at Brophy are expected to complete the writing sample of Brophy’s test on the same day they are interviewed.  Please expect to stay another 25 minutes after your interview to complete this portion of the test.

Admissions Interviews

The Admissions interviews will take place in January.

To take full advantage of your interview, an important part of the application process, please plan to arrive at least 5 - 10 minutes prior to your appointed time to check in at the Student Activity Center located in Keating Hall at the center of campus and be escorted to an interview room. Parents are invited to wait in the Student Activities Center.

Applicants should dress comfortably for their interviews. No special dress code requirement.
When you arrive on campus, park in the South lot. Enter the campus mall by walking through the arches of the McCain Colonnade located in the Eller Fine Arts Center. The Student Activity Center is located on the first floor of Keating Hall. As you walk through the colonnade, Keating Hall will be on your right side. The entrance to the Student Activity Center is on the northwest corner next to the Varsity Shop. Click here for a map of Brophy's campus (PDF).

Shadow Program

The Shadow Program is designed to provide interested 8th grade students an opportunity to visit the Brophy campus for a routine day, attend classes and meet teachers.  Shadowing is not mandatory as part of the application process; but it is a great opportunity to spend some time on our campus in the company of a Brophy student.  If you are interested in scheduling a shadow day, please review the following information.

Scheduling

Beginning Tuesday, September 7, shadow days will be scheduled online using the request form. No phone calls please. Visits will take place on selected Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays and some Fridays.  See the Shadow Day request form for available dates. We permit a limited number of shadows each day and some days are closed due to school conflicts.  Requests will be filled in the order in which they are received and you should receive a response to your request within 2 – 3 days.  If you do not know a Brophy boy in the freshman class to request as a host, we will assign one from our Diplomatic Corps.

On Shadow Day

  • Student guests should report to the Admissions Office in Eller Fine Arts Center between 7:45 and 8:00 AM. (school begins at 8:05 AM)
  • Student guests must comply with the Brophy dress code – a shirt with stand-up collar, slacks or shorts worn with a belt. No denim jeans.  Hats are never worn inside the buildings.
  • Food service is provided at The Harper Great Hall where students may purchase pizza, sandwiches, snacks and drinks ($3.00-$5.00 for lunch and break) or guests may bring their own lunch.
  • Student guests are advised to bring a book to read should a teacher give a test during class.
  • Student guests are to be picked up at 2:05 PM in the Admissions Office.

Transfer students may shadow anytime during the year. The same rules and procedures apply to them.

Brophy Statistics

There are some "myths" about Brophy admissions we can clarify:

  • Applications for Brophy range from 500-700
  • Brophy entrance exam scores can be shared with other schools and will be done so in a timely manner with no penalty to the student
  • Brophy accepts entrance exam scores taken at other schools however; any applicant who does not take the entrance exam at Brophy is expected to complete the writing sample of the Brophy test on the same day as his interview. There is no penalty to the applicant.

Brophy in the Press

Brophy's success at strengthening its Jesuit identity is profiled in the spring 2005 issue of Mission magazine, published by the California Province of the Society of Jesus. Read the article.
